CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

well they are still working on the studio infrastructure. Not sure if it means they are spending donor money while under lawsuit, maybe unpaid staff are working it with supplies bought before the lawsuit.

it sure seems like they are thinking donors won't have an issue with spending Trek film money on the studio no matter what.

While I took today off as I am going to be working all weekend, Curtis and his team were finishing off the offices and more importantly, the lighting grid! Everyone is super-excited as this will allow us to leave the green screen lighting up, which saves time and money. Plus we got the appropriate lighting incredibly cheap. Any set can be be set up under the roughly 35% of the sound stage that are under the grid.

I think the question I might have is, let's say the new Trek series is set a few years after Enterprise. Let's say there's interest in guest appearances from that cast, or even having actors from previous series' guest-star in new roles (as Rene Auberjonois did on Enterprise).

Would involvement in Axanar sour CBS on Gary Graham or JG Hertzler because of their involvement with Axanar? I think a lot of it will have to do with how the actors react to the whole situation. If they claim ignorance and are apologetic, maybe no harm. But if they "ally" themselves with Axanar, defend it publicly, then perhaps it gives CBS pause.

If somehow Axanar comes away with any kind of win (where the produce any kind of version of Axanar) and someone like Graham continues in his role (as another similar character, but not Soval) CBS might still be hesitant to cast him in any new role, perhaps just out of principle.

As for their broader careers? Not sure it will have much effect.

Even in the unlikely event that the show took place a few years after ENT, even if the show had the character of Soval, there's no reason at all that they couldn't or wouldn't simply recast the character. The general public was barely aware ENT was even on and the only people who'd give a shit are die hard ENT fans.

I was with you up to the end when you went Greek for about 4 or 5 words.

Looks like you're not allowed to talk about the lawsuit unless you have an "accredited law degree in the United States." in the Axanar Fan Group.

Sorry Canada...and everyone else.

ok, so fans of Starfleet can talk about Starfleet without being a graduate of the Academy, but fans of legal process cannot talk about legal process because they are not a graduate of the legal system.

glad to get that cleared up!

And you thought they were trapped in their own little world. How silly!

The antics of Peters and his moderators kinda make the Axanar camp sound like North Korea as the mainstream press portrays it. Glad I'm not drinking that brand of Kool-Aid.

I doubt that anyone involved in casting TV for CBS or any other studio know or give a shit what an actor like Graham does with his or her free time.

Except for the basic suckage of everything about it.

"Let's build a new TV series around a second-banana character about whom nothing interesting has been established other than in the imaginations of a very small base of trufans. And then let's get an actor who outside of occasional appearances as that character over the last two decades has had a TV and movie career profile of zero."

"Great idea - what's the series about?"

"Oh, the exact same old thing, except with Takei instead of William Shatner - and a way uglier ship."

The whole campaign was orchestrated by some fans whose approach to dealing with criticism makes Alec Peters look like a public relations genius by comparison.

Just a note, Excelsior was built around a "third-banana" not second banana.
Obviously, Kirk, Spock and McCoy were first bananas, Scotty was a second banana. Sulu, Chekov, Uhuru were third bananas. Followed by Rand and Chapel. Third bananas could be swapped in and out in any particular story and it wouldn't matter. In fact this did happen when Takei was away filming a movie. Chekov got Sulu's lines (with some accent adjustments).

And in keeping with the spirt of Mr. Takei's 'devotion' to Star Trek during the original series run, have a half season arc where Captain Sulu disappears for half a year, magically comes back; and when asked where he was states "I was in an alternate universe on a Jungle world with aliens filming me and directing me to "kill all stinking Cong..." with this old cowboy at my side...":biggrin:;)

Sorry George, after Sulu appeared on Voyager in a cringe-worthy performance, only out-cringed by GLWs' acting, I would NEVER want to see an Excelsior series. George may be good for live theater (Broadway) but I don't think he knows how to temper it down for television.
