I'm betting TFA will get its bluray/dvd release on May the 4th.....

Age Of Ultron was released in cinema's early May. Bluray was out on October 2nd. That's 5 months. If TFA would be released on May 4th, that's about the same amount in between.

So......

Even though 4-5 months is a very normal waiting period between theatrical release and home-cinema release, and marketing-wise May the 4th actually makes perfect sense........???

Also, I work in a retail store where we also sell dvd/blurays..... They are released on ALL DAYS of the week.

Considering that Force Friday appeared to have been massively successful, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they do something similar with the BD/DVD release. Or, if they release the movie earlier, they'll probably at least do something on May 4th.

You work in marketing then?

No, it seems not.

Well where I used to work here, we had the new releases on a Monday because the figures for charts and the like go from a Monday through Sunday, of course, I've not worked there in 18 months or so, but I doubt things have changed that much.

Yes it would be cute if that was done, but you asked a question, I answered it, no need to get in a tizz over it that someone said that wouldn't take you up on your wager.

I too don't think I've seen new dvd/blu releases on any day but a Monday here. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it is released early May, but here at least, it won't be on the 4th.

A tizz? No clue if I'm having one or am in one, never heard of it. :D

But sure, I can get a bit riled up if I ask a simple question and the first response needs the work 'fucking' in it, as if there's some kinda point to underscore. Civil response tend to make me respond civil. Uncivil responses though....

To answer your other questions:
No, I don't work in marketing. My job in retail does involve managing a multi-media section. Well, did, since multimedia is a bit of a duying market, so our supply is less then it was. Understanding how the market works is part of that. One thing is knowing if certain dates relate to certain franchises.
Second. Yes, dvd/bluray releases are scheduled throughout the week. Age Of Ultron, for example, was released on october 2, a friday.

Well that's just your own fucking problem then isn't it. :nyah:

Plus as for when Age of Ultron was out, it wasn't out on a Friday here. I received it on September 14th, several weeks before you and on a Monday.

With the UK, it's just been the one day, at least in my experience. (Enough so that I've got in to the routine of checking out the new releases before I get to work on Monday). Sometimes for the first couple of days, the local supermarket also has some money off the new releases, so having them out all on the same day of the week makes for a quick glance:)

I'm not sure if music cd's are on different days (maybe towards the end of the week)

The local Walmart was selling "pre-registry" packages that included extra content and a guaranteed copy of the film - to be released according to the package in March.

Hm, perhaps it varies per country? So far, over here, it's all over the place. Disney tends to release on wednesdays, but they've also released on wednesdays. Most tv-shows are released on tuesdays or fridays, with cd's all over the place. Big stars like Adele tend to have their releases on the same days internationally, to 'prevent downloading'. One of the biggest jokes ever.

Just checked Amazon, and there's no release date there yet.... You'd think that if Walmart had a release date, so would Amazon. Hoping you're right though, early release would be sweet.

I assumed that it would be released around mid March in time for Easter.

Yes it certainly does, The Martian it seems is available in the States, where as here, it's not out of another week or so, I have it on pre-order.

You would think, but Disney and Amazon had a falling out a few years back and they very rarely have a release date more than a month or so out.

You'd think that the studios wouldn't want huge differences between releases though? I mean, I can see how theatrical releases wouldn't matter to much, since some European countries get Marvel movies a week or two before the US.

But with dvd/bluray, you'd run the risk of high quality downloads becoming available for countries where the movie hasn't been released on physical media yet.
I mean, I'd still buy it, since I want the bluray for my collection, but I know plenty of people that would be satisfied with the download.

You can already get high quality downloads.

A quick Google search says April 5th, 2016, but who knows. Definitely not May the fourth though;
Big business has no interest in being cute.
