According to the FB screen capture Don sent me, Peters said, "I own that costume."

Okay, wild speculation time.

Could Alec's extensive collection of props be the reason that (a) he was named individually on the suit, and (b) they seem to be going for maximum damages?

Maybe they're hoping they can essentially claim his prop collection in lieu of cash, which would help avoid situations like this in the future, or something to that effect.

Or I might be reaching here. ;)

No, they don't care about the props.. unless you try to make money using them....

How come star trek costumes never look like REAL Clothing that people would actually want to wear? I mean, look at Chang's costume... It looks like the upholstery of a 1980's buick.....

Actually, I would imagine one reason is so it's more difficult to replicate or "copy" in unauthorized works.

Here's what I posted in response:

This is a circular cause and consequences argument, Robert Meyer Burnett. It has no barring on whether someone supports the rights of a copyright holder to protect its IP.

"I'm sure every TREK loyalist displays their TNG blus right next to their most valued possessions. I know I do."

Also, I tire of these terms, "TREK loyalist" and "real STAR TREK fans." If I don't like TNG, then I'm not a TREK loyalist is what's implied here. (I do like the first three seasons of TNG, BTW.)

It's as if there's some measure to being a TREK fan. Some litmus test. There isn't.

Nailed it.

GET THE ANGLE-GRINDER TO THOSE SERIAL NUMBERS!

Oh, if you insist...

Coming Soon from A/x/a/n/a/r P&B Productions: David Gerrold's Star Wolf.

"Given the changed nature and scope of our project, we have to set back the beginning of production. Our talented crew is already in the process of designing new sets, costumes and spacecraft to bring this groundbreaking series to the Internet, and we've reached out to many alums of popular and successful TV series including Star Trek and Babylon 5 to solicit their participation and support.

"Sadly, launching a new series from scratch is an expensive proposition. Our settlement with CBS has required razing the existing sets (yeah, I know, believe me we all share our donors' pain at the thought of all that beautiful work lost). Shortly we'll be announcing our first Star Wolf Kickstarter."

:guffaw:

Well he could claim insanity and say he is Garth of Izar

I would love to see someone dub some Garth scenes from "Whom Gods Destroy" with lines about the lawsuit etc.. That could be funnier than the Hitler video. LOL

At least that might arguably be allowed under Copyright as parody...
