Forget Captain America: Civil War, now we have:

Star Trek: Civil War

What side are you on! ;)

This case has been assigned to Judge R. Gary Klausner of the Central District of California.

Oh dear, he's quite the meanie!

I'm not in the business but it seems to me Gerrold, Peters and Burnett are rapidly burning their own bridges like a trio of pyromaniacs.

They appear to be positioning themselves as martyrs, for the sole purpose of asking for more money in the future. Perhaps to fund Starship Ranaxa: Not a Star Trek Movie.

There is the possibility that CBS will agree to licence this

Paramount holds an exclusive license to make Star Trek features.

Has anybody noticed that Tony Todd's twitter background is for a film about Sushi...?

He's taking a snide shot at Alec, and rightly so

Trekkies and and Trekkers; coming together to celebrate the vision one had for a future of unity, and squabbling over petty minutia and syntax.

This is new on their IndieGoGo page:

PLEASE NOTE: As of 1/30/15 Axanar Productions has been served with a lawsuit by CBS for copyright infringement. We take this issue seriously and will be posting updated on our website www.axanarproductions.com. It is quite possible this will change what exactly we at Axanar Productions deliver. But as always, our donors will be kept fully informed at our website.
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/axanar/x/13162072#/

The date seems odd as the lawsuit was served on 12/29/15. Unless there is something that we don't know?

I do wonder why IndieGoGo is allowing this to go on when it is clear that they don't know what product they are offering at this point?

I suspect thats simply a typographical error

Yeah. That and, "We take this issue seriously and we will be posting updated on our website..." and the OK but awkwardly worded, "It is quite possible this will change what exactly we at Axanar Prouctions deliver." All in just four short sentences.

Their attention to detail is astounding. I can see why so many have had complete confidence in them.

These are the same people that ran the Kickstarter for Cushman's season 3 book. Do you expect accuracy and proper use of the language?

Neil

True, but - not that I think CBS has any interest in using anything from Axanar at all - couldn't CBS produce TV movies, or direct-to-home-video/streaming movies?

I'm thinking of Battlestar here. Syfy didn't have the rights to Battlestar movies, so the 'movies' of that franchise were carefully delinated as not being actual features.

It's a quote from "Office Space". You either thought the line was funny or not.

It's also a quote that you felt the need to repeat. So, don't shift it to them.

Well, the joke in Office Space was about one character's perception of federal, maximum-security prisons and his worst-case scenario involved jail rape.

tharpdevenport was quoting the character's line verbatim more as a reference to the film and the character's dilemma therein, rather than as a direct reference to rape.

It's a joke that relies on a pop culture reference, which is about three degrees from any type of rape joke. And I would argue that the Office Space joke, while obviously referencing rape, wasn't a "rape joke" in that the joke wasn't about the hilarity of rapists or rape victims or rape itself. The joke, in Office Space, was about how funny it was that a character (Michael Bolton) perceived prison in such a dramatic way.

Rape isn't funny. Nobody, from tharpdevenport to Mike Judge to myself has made any comment that could be perceived that way, in my opinion.

But yeah, CBS Legal won't use that type of language in court. And the only conceivable way for Mr. Peters to serve any jail time, would be if he went bonkers and was somehow ruled in contempt of court. And he won't do that, because he's a lawyer.

They should hire Cash Markman to direct Axxxanar XXX: This is Not Star Trek. With a few new special scenes to the script, and maybe a bad joke or two, they could get the film financed and released without any need of donors or worry from CBS.

You might need some recasting though, and I'm not sure if Mr. Peters is up for it.

Well, Rob Burnett has directed softcore porn, so... the infrastructure is there!

So like every other day on the Trek BBS ? ;-)
Yeah, I just made a tee shirt on Cafe Press with this proceeds will go to me :D ( FYI Cafe Press let's you make trek stuff (with rules BTW)

He directed Femme Fatales, which was a "skinemax" show. It barely qualifies as softcore.

Mr. Markman directed hundreds of hardcore, award-winning adult films. He's in the AVN Hall of Fame. He's far more qualified to direct Axxxanar.

Oh. Well. Now that you have explained it with all of the pop culture references, I can see now how prison rape is funny. Thanks.

Oh. Well. Now I'm confused, rape ISN'T funny?

Anyway. This is all OT.

Too much time to kill, today. Perused the script from "Whom Gods Destroy" and came across these lines of dialog:

SPOCK: How could you, a Starship fleet Captain, believe that a Federation crew would blindly obey your order to destroy the entire Antos race, a people famous for their benevolence and peaceful pursuits?
GARTH: That was my only miscalculation. I had changed. I had risen above this decadent weakness which still has you in its command, by the way, Captain. My crew had not. I couldn't sway them, but my new crew, the men in this room, will obey my orders without question. Gentlemen, you have eyes but you cannot see. Galaxies surround us, limitless vistas. And yet the Federation would have us grub away like some ants on some somewhat larger than usual anthill. But I am not an insect. I am master of the universe, and I must claim my domain.
KIRK: I agree there was a time when war was necessary, and you were our greatest warrior. I studied your victory at Axanar when I was a cadet. In fact it's still required reading at the Academy.
GARTH: As well it should be.
KIRK: Very well. But my first visit to Axanar was as a new fledged cadet on a peace mission.
GARTH: Peace mission! Politicians and weaklings!
KIRK: They were humanitarians and statesmen, and they had a dream. A dream that became a reality and spread throughout the stars, a dream that made Mister Spock and me brothers.
GARTH: Mister Spock, do you consider Captain Kirk and yourself brothers?
SPOCK: Captain Kirk speaks somewhat figuratively and with undue emotion. However, what he says is logical and I do, in fact, agree with it.
GARTH: Blind! Truly blind! Captain Kirk is your commanding officer and you are his subordinate. That is all. Yet, Mister Spock, you are a worthy commander in your own right, and in my fleet, you will surely have a Starship to command.
SPOCK: Please forgive me, but exactly where is your fleet?
GARTH: Out there waiting for me. They will flock to my cause, and for good reason. Limitless power, limitless wealth, and solar systems ruled by the elite. We, gentlemen, are that elite, and we must take what is rightfully ours from the decadent weaklings that now hold it.
SPOCK: Captain Garth
GARTH: Lord Garth!
SPOCK: As you wish. At any rate, you must be aware of the fact that you are attempting to recreate the disaster which resulted in your becoming an inmate in this place.
GARTH: I was betrayed and treated barbarically.
SPOCK: On the contrary. You were treated with justice, and with compassion which you failed to show towards any of your intended victims. Logically, therefore, one must assume GARTH: Remove this animal!
Coincidentally, it seems to speak to the current circumstances. At least obliquely, especially the line about the fleet, "We, gentlemen, are the elite, and we must take what it rightfully ours from the decadent weaklings that now hold it."
