Old Star Trek movies and episodes that are still relevant

There are a lot of Star Trek episodes that seem dated, but many of the old movies and episodes that still seem relevant.

I think the two biggest examples of still relevant episodes are "A Taste of Armageddon" and "Chains of Command". I still think Star Trek 6 is relevant in general, even if it is an allegory for the end of the Cold War.

The Changing Face of Evil did one of the best jobs of any TV show capturing the atmosphere and feel of an event meant to be on a similar scale to 9/11. Which is pretty impressive given it was written and aired over two years before 9/11.

A Private Little War, the Hill People needed the means to protect themselves and their territory. Without guns and ammunition they would have been driven off, or enslaved, or destroyed.

Last Battlefield, the B-story, when a (presumably) natural disastor strikes, the military comes running with aid.

The Dominion War arc, sometimes there's no reasoning with a intractable enemy, and you just have to admit that talking simply isn't going to work, you're going to need to fight for your freedoms.

Data's Day, once in a while someone going to hand you your hat.

I'd go with "The Ultimate Computer", as people continue to lose jobs to automation.
You can always get a job flipping burgers down at McDonalds, oh wait, that's being automated too.

Much of STAR TREK that dealt with The Human Condition can be found within the seven seasons of The Next Generation. Stories that are classic in their construct. "Classic" as in: True Yesterday. True Today. True Tomorrow. Outside of that, as far as the movies might be concerned, The Motion Picture, to me, has that timelessness, as well. V'GER has searched - not just the world, but - the entire universe over, in search of answers. Trying to discover who it was and who it could become through scientific fact and inquiry. Only to find an important truth: Logic & Knowledge are not enough. To discover one's own spirituality is at least as important and when V'GER makes this realisation, only then does it transcend its personal limits. Only then do the boundaries become not only vast, but endless. For a 40 year old movie, it holds up surprisingly well ... it's still heavy-duty stuff!

Agree. TMP

So many from TOS are relevant it's scary. We have definitely slid backwards as a society. The one that comes to mind is "Let This Be Your Last Battlefield."

The Omega Glory, for a certain political candidate's disdain for "savages".:techman:
