Ro Laren's career in the novels

Kilana2

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Ro is one of my favorite characters. I like the mentorship Picard offers to her, believing in her potential and her finally becoming Captain of DS9. She's no ordinary Bajoran, lacking their usual religious faith. She has a mind of her own. I really want to read more about her in future novels. Another encounter with Riker, who was never a Ro fan after all, should prove to be interesting....

Any other Ro fans out there? ;)

Yes, I like her arc. I always want the main characters come to their senses and finally don a Starfleet uniform, so my favorite Ro scene is when she receives the operations-gold uniform from Picard. Have you red the pre-Relaunch novel where she visits DS9?

I hope she receives a spot if Tales of the Captain's Table is revived.

Which one? I need titles, I have a "fuzzy" brain ;).

I liked the Captain's Table short stories. Ro is definitely a character who earns a place there.

Ro appeared in the 1997 novel Wrath of the Prophets, but I think all of her scenes with Kira are set on Bajor, not DS9. She does appear on DS9 in the comic "Friend and Foe Alike".

I've always been a Ro fan, and have enjoyed her time in the DS9 books. DRG3 and Una have both given her some quality time in their DS9 work :)

I'm curious how her job as the new DS9's Captain will turn out to be. Obviously she's got her hands full....

I like the journey Ro Laren's taken in the DS9 Relaunch books. I'm curious about what's going to happen to her and the other characters in the upcoming novel Ascendance by David R. George.

I don't know. Considering that Michelle Forbes refused to join the DS9 crew it is unlikely.

Ro looks great on that photo, though ;)

I'd guess it's a photoshop of some publicity still or another... Yep, a quick Google search shows a picture of her in modern day clothes and no Bajoran nose but in the exact same pose, in reference to an article about her joining The Returned.

That doesn't even look like Ro to me, that shot, photoshopped or not!

But for the OP, one book to check out is TNG's Rogue Saucer; Ro isn't mentioned by name, but it shows her career in the Maquis, and you can tell that it is Ro.

I was always hoping for a Ro & Tom Riker hook-up. Would have been cool in the DS9 Episode "Defiant" that Ro was helping Tom....but it probably would have mucked up her ever taking command of DS9.

I'm a big Ro fan myself.....perhaps her and Sam Lavelle (from Lower Decks) coulda been a nice coupling as well!

She is dating Quark, for whatever reasons.....;).

I've read it a long time ago. All I remember is a prominent role of Alynna Nechayev.

As I mentioned, in "Rogue Saucer", Ro's character goes unnamed (except for something like "The Director"), because of how high up she is in the Maquis organization, however, the character is Ro Laren from all the other indications in the novel, whether it is the way she speaks or memories the person has.

I love Ro and enjoyed seeing her in the DS9 relaunch. Admittedly I've not read anything after Worlds of DS9, but am aware of her career progression. Given her reputation in Starfleet (even taking into account the backing from Picard) her jump from Lieutenant/Security Chief to Captain (especially of such a high profile assignment) in just six years just doesn't seem right to me somehow.

But that's just me.

Well, Destiny happened in between that. Starfleet took quite a hit.

Sure did. So many battles, so many people lost (including Captain Vaughn).

Although, Ro was already CO of DS9 when that happened. Vaughn transferred to the Kirk prior to the events of Destiny and Ro had been his XO.
