One's a continuation, the other is a soft reboot.

I'm sure he could've jerked us all off with a movie that just played to nostalgia, but decided to make a movie that could be enjoyed by more than just diehard Trekkies.

What he did? Let's take stock. Revived a dead franchise. Check Made ST popular and cool. Check Made the studio over $1 billion. Check Was critically acclaimed. Check Nominated for over 100 awards between the 2 films. Check Had a hugely positive viewer rating for both films: Check Well I guess that clears things up

The irony is that a lot of Wars fans on various forums are complaining that Abrams did a better job on Star Trek, and that the new movie is a poor rehash of Episode IV. It seems this guy just can't make anybody happy.

I'm sure he could've jerked us all off with a movie that just played to nostalgia, but ...

I don't know about you, but after all the money I spent on Star Trek over the past 30 years, I think I -- and quite a few others -- deserve a little fellating from the studio. But no, we get garbage dressed up in Star Trek costumes so the drooling masses will pay $10 to switch off their brains for two hours.

Thank goodness for Phase II and Star Trek Continues.
