Big Bang Theory Season 9 Discussion (Spoilers included)

With such shows changes often happen at a very slow pace because they are not designed this way.

The characters have their quirks that translate into humor so there is no need for huge changes often enough if the formula works. Changes often come as a natural progression if the producers decide they want change or it becomes sort of unbelievable that no change ever happens, e.g. Sheldon mistreating Amy for 10+ more seasons can get pretty stale so they they changed up the status quo which in turn opens up new possibilities to tell some stories that are not following a well trodden path.

This is one of the problems i had with Two and Half Men (although i like it). For 10+ seasons Alan hasn't changed at all.. he was a stuck up cheapskate in the pilot and the show finale. Charlie was the drunk womanizer from day one until he was written out of the show (with few attempts at an ongoing development that was quickly rolled back to status quo). It may still be funny but also got stale in the end.. you could skip half a season and still follow the episodes with no problems.

Alan had actually become more of a caricature. Especially during the first season, he was the straight man, but broke from the divorce. It was a couple of seasons later that he really became the cheapskate. In the final season, just a weasel.

The previews for next week look interesting..."it's the big bang you've been waiting for!"

When Dave and Sheldon were in the same room Sheldon looked so much shorter than he normally does!

The characters rarely grow and nothing really changes, so you can tune in and not have to get caught up on backstory.

It took me a while to remember that. Lazy writing at it's finest.

I'm pretty sure that's what the commercials for the show say...

"This Thursday an all new BBT... lazy writing at it's finest!"

Do you 2 guys even watch the show?!?
The past 2 seasons got some major story changes...

Pretty good episode, the b plot with Raj and Howard was a bit meh but lots of good Amy (and Shamy) stuff and Stephen Merchant is always good to see.

I know it's only a sitcom but i still hollered when they kissed at the end :lol:

Next week could be epic! ;)

I have never been so excited for two fictional characters to have sex! Is that weird? I feel like a proud mother. *sniff sniff* My little boy is growing up.

Raise your hand if you know that song and couldn't place it during the episode. [Raises hand, of course.]

"Kiss her you brilliant fool!"
My wife and I were eating dinner at the time, and almost did spit-takes and fell out of our chairs.

I have mixed feelings about Sheldon growing up and becoming human. The last of the boys will finally be in an actual adult relationship, which marks a turning point for the series and its original premise. I think the show really is turning into Friends, as someone else upthread suggested, and, honestly, one Friends was enough.

Sheldon had to mature eventually. If he remained the same as he was in the beginning of the series, it would have gotten stale. His relationship with Amy, and his journey into adulthood has been very interesting, to me at least.

While I think season 9 has been an improvement over the last few, it is losing steam. I would be happy if 10 was the final season.

^ Sheldon has seen Amy naked? Are you talking about the time she showed him her bikini wax?

Had forgotten about that that "all those band-aids" :)

Was referring to the time she had the flu and got Sheldon to put vicks on her chest and to help her in the bath - till he wised up she'd gotten better.

Oh yeah, I forgot that he had helped her bathe. On very small occasions, he was actually a decent boyfriend.

I saw a promo pic of Thursday's episode where he shows up at Amy's with a large bouquet of flowers. "Good boy, Sheldon!"
