Beyond Teaser Trailer Analysis

Some of the displays in the "found ship" have a TOS films look to them. Or maybe similar to the Kelvin from 09.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. In fact, the shot with Sulu sitting at navigation shows a very "old" looking set of controls:

Note the joystick control similar to the Kelvin, and also a knob on the grey box in the center of the console. Plus, that viewscreen looks very rounded at the edges, a-la TOS.

Other than the name I see no resemblance

Perhaps. But I wonder -- Orci is credited with writing, so I wonder if this element might be a carry-over from his original script. Leave it to him to reference something so obscure (Section 31?).

Or it's all a coincidence.

Perhaps Spock was

1) In a security/ ops position on the U.S.S Franklin
2) Pretending to be in security/engineering for some reason
3) Just picked up and wore the red jacket- cause... reasons.

Good observations made in this article. It appears as though the heroes manage to get onto a somewhat operational ship, which is what they're doing in the beginning. If the Beastie Boys are in-fact playing, it's probably a VERY old ship.

Seems to be right.
I don't think Enterprise is taken down in the opening sequence.

Here's my guess on the plot...
Ships are frequently lost in a kind of space-bermuda-triangle, where USS Yorktown perished as well. Enterprise is send to investigate, then boarded and finally destroyed in a sequence way more spectacular than we've witnessed so far.
Kirk escapes in a life-boat, meets Sofia Boutella who got there way before and acts like a self-sufficient one-woman-guerilla army on the planet. She's gathered knowledge what's actually happening, shares this information with our heroes who locate each other and Scotty refurbishes the old Earth ship USS Franklin (D. Roosevelt) and fly to the federation outpost Dubai where the final showdown occurs.
Then they'll get an all new Enterprise (since the last one is outdated since the appearance of USS Vengeance).

I noticed on Facebook that the trailer views for the various Beyond trailers has reached over 25 million views, approaching Stta Wars trailer levels for 2 days. Add to this the people seeing it in front of Star Wars, and we have a huge awareness factor for this movie now. I'd say the trailer is a big success so far.

The Franklin could be even older than the Kelvin.

Maybe that they use thousands of little ships? Or that lots of ships don't make it out of their space with the crew alive? That it's sort of an alien graveyard?

It doesn't have to be the same thing, but it just goes to show that nothing ever can really be that unique of a concept. No matter what this movie or the next show does, it will ultimately be compared to the hundreds of pre-existing hours of Trek.
