It's not very catchy so what can we call it?*

:p

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are embarking on a new universe of interrelated characters and stories. The studio — which is already in the process of expanding its Transformers universe after four movies based on that popular Hasbro toy line — is announcing a new deal with Hasbro on Tuesday that will see Paramount and Allspark Pictures, Hasbro’s film label, build an interconnected, cross-property onscreen universe featuring characters from five of Hasbro’s other brands: G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and ROM.

* yes yes the more serious answer is the Hasbro universe.

"The Hasbro Universe" is too much like real English. Let's go with "Hasbroverse". :D

GI Joe vs Transformers. YAAAAAAS.

Its a shame they don't own Centurions - I can see a live-action Jake Rockwell holding off Cobra HISS tanks.

This goes back to Hasbro's larger multimedia strategy for the Hub (Discovery Kids), which was to use the Transformers Prime television series as their version of Avengers to launch and spinoff those properties. Apparently a combination of low ratings, infighting and out of control budget killed the initiative. I guess they are partnering up with movie studios now that the in-house attempt failed.

The others I don't really care about but I loved the Micronauts when I was little. I don't really have any desire to see a Micronauts movie though.

Micronauts and Rom as toys had faded away during my 80's childhood though I saw them at garage sales. I've read some ROM comics and kinda curious about the comic reboot as well.

M.A.S.K. interests me cause it's essentially the toy line hybrid of Joe/TF and I had some of them to go along with my TF's.

Not sure how Hasbro/Paramount plan to work this so could be interesting or a huge disaster.

Is that G.I. Joe 3 still moving forward?

I loved the Micronauts too, but ... I'm a little unclear what you can really do with them or ROM. A lot of the brand recognition from G.I. Joe and Transformers originated with the animated series (and presumably would with M.A.S.K. too). The other lines don't have that, so what you'd get is "characters that have been updated for the new millennium but which vaguely resemble a Mego (not Hasbro) toy line from 40 years ago." Rush to the theaters, everyone!

They could adapt the Micronauts or ROM comics, but those diverge pretty far from the toy line in places, too.

And I didn't like M.A.S.K. very much anyway.

I'd expect they can do one movie with a crossover between two properties, then a second with a different crossover, then a third, etc. That's if they don't crash and burn with the first attempt, anyway.

Maybe they can finally explain why the "Command" in M.A.S.K. is spelled with a "K".

Real world answer: Cause mask spelled with a C looks stupid.

Honestly, the only way I'd buy this nonsense is if they got the guys who wrote the Joe, Rom and Micronauts comics for Marvel to be the universe runners. What's more likely is that they'll get some idiot who directed an independent movie about a monster shoe who'll try to outcampy Batman '66 cause "you can't take a toy movie seriously!"

Inhumanoids was a Hasbro property and there was a rumor about five or six years ago that it was being revived as a comic book project. However, Hasbro has been pretty quiet about Inhumanoids. Too bad, because team of adventure scientists taking on ancient giant cthulu-ish monsters could make for a fun, summer movie.
