Thought he might have missed the market, but enough competition for one more deal, I guess. Less than he was hoping for, but 6/132 isn't too shabby.

Hell of a rotation...

His elbow is a ticking time bomb with that violent delivery of his, which probably depressed his market by a not-insignificant amount.

Apropos of nothing, I was doing some data dredging last night, and something stuck out to me: Has there ever been a player who signed a free-agent contract with a new team worth $100+ million at age 30 or over, who has also won the WS while he was on that new team?

A-Rod post opt-out, no?

10 years, $275MM in 2007. Born in 1975.

In 2009 he was 34 and they won the WS.

Details of Heyward's new contract:

Heyward has the right to opt out of the deal after three seasons and become a free agent again at age 29, having earned $78 million under the deal with the Cubs.
He also has a conditional opt out after the 2019 season, if he has 550 plate appearances that year.
The deal calls for a $20 million signing bonus, payable in four $5 million installments each April 1 from 2024-27.
He gets salaries of $15 million in 2016, $21.5 million in each of the next two years, $20 million in 2019, $21 million apiece in 2020 and 2021 and $22 million in each of the final two seasons.
Heyward gets a full no-trade provision through 2018, then during 2019 and 2020 has 12 teams he cannot be dealt to without his consent.

Three-team trade out of nowhere. Todd Frazier to the White Sox; Frankie Montas, Trayce Thompson and Micah Johnson going to the Dodgers; Jose Peraza, Brandon Dixon and Scott Schebler going to the Reds.

The prospects the Reds got are junk so this seems like a straight salary dump. In any event, thank fucking God Frazier is out of the division.

With 111 ballots currently in, representing about one-fifth of the estimated 450 voting members of the BBWAA (Olney, Henning, Tim Brown and Jim Baumbach continue to abstain), your current Hall of Fame standings:

Griffey: 100%
Piazza: 90.9%
Bagwell: 85.2%
Raines: 80.7%
Hoffman: 62.5%
Schilling: 58%
Mussina: 54.5% (BULLSHIT)
Bonds: 48.9% (BULLSHIT)
Clemens: 48.9% (BULLSHIT)

Nice to see Piazza get up to 90%, I will attend his induction this year. The Hall of Fame is about an hour and half from where I live.

Well, it's a small sample size, and unlike, say, political polling, because this isn't a random sample it isn't necessarily representative of how the final totals will shake out. Piazza has been gaining about five percent every year (I think he was around 68 or 69 percent last year) so while he has a better than decent shot of hitting 75 I wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion. While a huge chunk of assholes were purged from the voting rolls this year, there are still a bunch of assholes who think that because Piazza had some acne on his back he must have been using OMG THE ROIDS.

Edit: John Smoltz is replacing Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci in the Fox booth. He's not enough to cover up the stink of Joe Buck, but it's a start.

Schilling going way up (based on early ballots), nice to see there. He's somewhat borderline, but the post season stuff has to be a big plus. Not that he wasn't pretty dominant during the regular season, but he's on your short list if you need a post season win in a big spot...
