Well, that trailer was...yeah.
I really didn't think that a planet bound action movie was something they'd go with. The only other mostly planet bound Trek movie (ST IV) was one I didn't enjoy nearly as much as most people, but it at least had great characters. This just looks like an excuse to be more like a Michael Bay movie while spending less money on big ship CG. This reminds me of that Voyager episode where bad guys took over the ship and left most of the crew on a planet, except lamer because at least the Voyager wasn't destroyed in that episode. I can't say the idea of a Star Trek movie without the ship is particularly compelling. I thought Pegg would turn out to be a better writer than Orci/Kurtzman, but it looks like he may be one of the few people who is worse then them, which is scary.
After growing to like Into Darkness and hearing Pegg would be writing Beyond, I was cautiously optimistic. Apparently, the universe is now punishing me for that
