The only appropriate use of the Time Stone by the MCU writers would be to time travel Peggy Carter to the present day so that we can have an awesome Cap-and-Peggy-in-love-and-fight-the-bad-guys movie.

I'm sure her husband and children would appreciate that.

The only appropriate use of the Time Stone by the MCU writers would be to time travel Peggy Carter to the present day so that we can have an awesome Cap-and-Peggy-in-love-and-fight-the-bad-guys movie.

It's amazing how they were able to use the Time Stone one last time to send Steve and Peggy back to the post-war era where Steve could take an assumed name and then finally marry Peggy and live happily ever after, isn't it?

I wasn't, it was a good trailer that seemed to encapsulate perfectly what the movie will be about. I especially liked Tony's entrance, his "I was your friend too!" line and his fight against Tag Team Cap and Bucky.

As for the Avengers having some sort of bureaucratic oversight, I don't think it's really a bad idea, but I think it would be best if it was multi-national, maybe part of the UN or it's own group.

Which is the sort of arrangement I would be happy with, becuase of the below possibility.

I think if one government had complete control of the Avengers you'd run to big of a risk of them being used purely as a weapon against their enemies.

Which encourages said enemies and other nations to either build their own super teams to counter the the Avengers meaning started the Arms Race all over again.

Or coming up with batshit insane contingencies to keep they Avengers away from them i.e. Watchmen and how Doctor Manhattan seemed to contribute to the Cold War being on the verge of turning into a nuclear war.

Ok, so I agree with the idea that it's weird for Vision to be on Tony's side, given his whole speech about humanity in AoU. So... What if this is the movie's version of Clor? In the comics, Tony and Reed Richards conspire to create a controllable version of Thor (dead, at that timepoint in the comics) by cloning him. This goes wrong for Tony in that the nature of the act helps turn some of Tony's team against him (along with the fact that the clone kills one of Cap's crew).

If Vision wouldn't normally be part of Tony's group, maybe Tony still has some JARVIS overrides he can use to hack Vision into playing ball? With Thor not in the movie, Vision is probably the biggest hitter barring Wanda.

I'd still kill to see a live-action version of the aftermath of Clor debacle though (when Thor returns to life and learns of what Tony did)... http://m.imgur.com/gallery/EtDwU

I guess it felt like the typical comic book storyline of "heroes pitted against each other" with all the Greek tragedy undertones to accompany it.

I guess it was tough for me because I like Captain America but I don't feel like he's in the right, at least from that brief clip. That might change, but it left a really sour taste in my mouth.

The trailer is odd insofar as it presents some perfectly valid arguments for superhero regulation, but presents no arguments against it. It forces the audience to speculate about what Cap's reasons for opposing the Sokovia Accords are -- hence all the speculation in this thread. We don't really know where Steve's coming from yet.

Well, we saw that the Sokovia Accords themselves are indeed a United Nations treaty. And given that they're doing Civil War's regulatory document as a U.N. treaty rather than as as an Act of the United States Congress, I would infer from this that the regulatory system being designed is international.

If that is the case, then in some ways this new Sokovia Accords body would essentially be a replacement for SHIELD and its World Security Council, considering that they, too, were an international body with legal jurisdiction over the fantastical.

And that's the beauty of that storyline. It provides us a way to discuss the issue, present our arguments (in a hopefully civil manner) and maybe broaden our horizon.

While Marvel is usually flashy entertainment that doesn't go very deep into social issues this storyline tended to do that because in extension it touched on current real world issues and this is why it was such a controversially discussed storyline (can't remember other Marvel events having such a "public" discussion when it was released, they're usually confined to even more specialized message boards than TBBS).

What they do with it in the movie is anyone's guess but i think we'll get a very good movie out of it that moves and changes the MCU once again (it seems the Avengers and Cap movies are the go to movies to advance the MCU storyline).

Interesting that Thor is not on that list.

He is not in the movie I guess, but he is an Avenger and should be on there.

He beat me to it. Apparently the document comes with the complete Phase 2 Box set. IGN also got one and posted an image of it. I'm kind of surprised they would include this in the P2 set, and not the P3 one, which is the one I would assume will include CA: CW.

Not surprised, as they want to keep the appetite for next year's movies active.

A couple of issues with the document: if it's supposed to be a UN document, all of the text should be translated into all six official UN languages. The other is the "globe and laurel" logo, which may be a thing Marvel's lawyers pushed for to avoid annoying the UN's lawyers. In which case...*shrugs*
