Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Tantive IV work is awesome. I was kind of hoping that there would be a Battlefront map based on it. It could be set up like a Supremacy map where there are a few control points on board the Rebel ship (engine systems etc) and a few on the other side of the docking port on board the Star Destroyer (tractor beam controls etc). The Rebels need to protect their shipboard systems to prevent complete reactor shutdown while also needing to fight their way to shut down the tractor beam to allow the ship to escape. If the Imperials shut down the reactor then the ship would never be able to escape, but if the Rebels shut down the tractor beam then the ship can leave and make the jump to hyperspace to win.

Outstanding! I yesterday had some friends over to watch the entire Star Wars trilogy. Super fun times. (Don't embarrass yourself asking "which trilogy?" If there's not Luke Skywalker or Han Solo, it's hard to call it Star Wars...)

The Prequels has Luke.. technically :ouch:

Well, guys. It looks like I may be taking leave from the TWOK project for a bit to indulge more into some Star Wars stuff. Honestly, my portfolio is in much need of some variation from Trek if I want to break out into the game industry, so I'm gonna run with this recent bite from the Star Wars bug.

Don't fret. Every time the bug bites, it only lasts a month or two before Trek calls my name again. I'll be back to this project soon, and if any of you would like to keep up with my other work, please see my blog at rigel7studios.blogspot.com

Impressive.

Most impressive.

I agree that you should try to tackle some original works, as well, but there is benefit to doing someone else's IP. You show that you can duplicate physical items and environments.

Throw some of each in to your portfolio. The wider your range of abilities, the more likely you'll break in.

Variety helps the mind breath as well-
Just be sure to let us know where you will be posting your new projects, I love seeing your work!

You should go really crazy and do some original stuff! Just my two bits.

(We'll miss you!)

I do have a few ideas bouncing around for an original 70's inspired sci-fi ship interior that I've always wanted to do.

It might be good for variety's sake to also try making some non-science fiction environments. Like, see if you can duplicate a national monument like the Capitol or the Statue of Liberty. Those are instantly recognizable, and would be impressive to people who might not be Star Trek or Star Wars fans.

Totally your choice, of course. Just a friendly thought. :)

^If he's looking for interiors to do, there's probably nothing more recognizable than the Oval Office.

^And plenty of reference material, too.

I'd love to see Donny tackle the Millennium Falcon or the Emperor's throne room from Return of the Jedi.

I'd love to see Donny tackle the Millennium Falcon or the Emperor's throne room from Return of the Jedi.

The Throne Room is definitely doable. The Falcon? I think it'll give me a heart attack. So much greeble detail!

Donny, I'd love to see you take a stab at the Carbon Freezing Chamber from ESB. I'm curious what you would do with all the forced perspective elements, maybe handling it like you did the TWOK engineering set?

What was determined about the illuminated panels at the back of this set?

Not the graphics mounted within the backlit plates, just the overall panel itself? Was it assumed they were constructed specifically for the first motion picture? If so, well, I had a bit of a surprise when I watched something earlier this evening I hadn't watched since 1977, "The Making of Star Wars" which aired on ABC television in September '77. Much of the action took place within some generic sci-fi control room as C-3PO and R2-D2 discussed the "recently" released blockbuster movie. As the camera panned at one point, I noticed something oddly familiar. I backed the footage a few seconds to see it again, this time taking a screen capture and highlighted the area of interest in a bold green border.

Is this not the same panel simply rotated 90 degrees? If this has already been discussed, please forgive me. I didn't feel like reading through 50 odds pages.

Sincerely,

Bill

A good find indeed. It's confusing though, because I'd always assumed those panels were build specifically for the Phase II sets, since the design turns up in Mike Minor concept art of Kirk's quarters:

Since they were used on an 1977 ABC production of "The Making of Star Wars", this would imply that Mike Minor's concept was using a found object as inspiration, and not the other way around.

Yeah, like these tiles I mentioned upthread.
