I'm enjoying the show. It's not a David Tennant fangirl showcase, though. Don't expect that.

Well, as a straight male I'm not into fangirl showcases anyway I'm just a fan of Tennant as an actor, and he's really the only reason I'm sticking with the show, but I'm aware he isn't actually the focus. I wish he was, but unfortunately I know that what I consider poorly written/acted filler is the main show. Still, after struggling through episode 2, Tennant (kind of) appearing and being creepy as hell was great, and I was excited to see something interesting actually happen in the show. He's the reason I'll be able to get through the show to the end, so I'm sure I'll be posting more about how awesome he is as the show goes on. If nothing else, it beats posting my thoughts on the mediocre "main character" and the horrible supporting cast. I'd prefer to think about them as little as possible.

You'd think this wasn't even set in the MCU and they weren't allowed to namecheck anything. I think it comes from watching the first episode of Supergirl only the other day too, and it was constantly "my cousin, my cousin, Him, His" etc
It just sounds really forced, clearly signposted why it's been done and takes me out of what I'm watching

i dont mind it, because those references came from Jessica and she is not a fan of superheroism per se.

And on Supergirl it is mostly in the pilot that they avoid the name Superman. She name drops him all the time in the episodes after and just calls him Superman or Clark.

Right. Thoughts of being a superhero lead to a rather traumatic memory, and she was never that enthusiastic about being one in the first place.

I'm only about 8 episodes in, so I've not read the rest of this thread (apologies if I step over stuff already said/discussed) ... but about the only bad thing about this show is how much it so brutally highlights that there's room for, an interest in, and the material available for Marvel to do a female-centered superhero project that can stand head and shoulders amongst (if not above) any of the mainstream male heroes we always get. Hopefully now that Agent Carter and Jessica Jones have proven themselves, Marvel will get off their asses and make a feature film about one of their many female superheroes.

Otherwise, the series is fantastic. Bravo, Marvel, ABC Studios and Netflix!

How is that a movie?

A successful movie requires the hero over coming a certain level of incompetence.

Without Hawkeye as her stooge/handicap, that's not going to happen.

As much as I like Natasha, I gotta wonder if the solo-feature is really the way to go with her. The features tend to appeal to a wider audience, wheras a Black Widow solo movie would need to go places that Marvel reserves for Netflix.

So budget it as a Borne style all practical stunts hard R-rated spy thriller and take a risk that it won't make a profit till the blu-ray & streaming revenue comes in, or go the other way and make what's essentially a female bond movie fit for family viewing. This isn't rocket science, it's show business!

Regardless, the point stands that a female centric movie is *long* overdue in this franchise. Hell, they still haven't even gotten to a non-Caucasian starring movie yet and with both Dr. Strange & the new Spider-Man in the pipeline that's two completely new white guys on top of the seven(?) they already had against the one black guy and one white woman they haven't even gotten to yet.

After Age of Ultron, I'm glad we're not getting a Black Widow movie. Just lost all interest in her, and was never a big ScarJo fan to begin with.

Marvel's been consistently making acclaimed, successful products. If it takes til 2018 for their female starring movie, I think we should all just wait and be glad they are going to do it right. They've hardly been ignoring women. Agents of SHIELD is very female centric, Agent Carter is female starring and obviously Jessica Jones is as well. More importantly they are actually good.

Of all the Marvel movies, that's the one you'd omit? I'd easily have picked Iron Man 2 or Age of Ultron first.

Well, Widow wasn't even introduced until IM2, though sure, they could have just given her her own solo movie there and still laid the groundwork for the rest of Phase One that IM2 did. But I was thinking in terms of the post-Avengers MCU. IM3 was ultimately pointless and can be skipped without missing a beat, so might as well drop it and give Widow a solo movie.

I just started watching the series, and am on episode 3. I like it, but it feels a bit draggy in places. Maybe it's just me? I'm liking the feel of it, though.

I know I've often had to look back and try to analyze things a bit more when I realize that my opinion differs so much from the majority when it comes to things like the SW prequels, and the Pirates of the Carribean and Matrix Sequels.

I just figure we disagree, which is fine. I'm not going to pretend I have different opinions just to fit in with a general consensus I do understand that my opinion is the minority opinion sometimes, and everyone has the right to their own opinion. But, if everyone only posted in topics where they shared the same general opinion, forums would get kind of pointless. I do sometimes bow out of topics if it gets ridiculous, but generally speaking I'm fine with having a differing opinion, and sharing the opinion. I can go to far at times and I can be very opinionated, I admit. Especially when I'm irritaited or outright angry about whatever topic I'm on.

Still, I'm not going to change an opinion because it doesn't match, and while I'll sometimes leave a topic or tone down my responses if I realize I'm getting too worked up, I'm not going to stop posting what I truly believe about something. For example, this is the thread to discuss Jessica Jones, and so I've posted about it and will probably continue, even if I think its a slow, plodding show written and made by fairly mediocre people that just happens to have a good villain and everyone else thinks is the best thing since sliced bread. I'm a nerd, so I watch things I'm interested in and comment on them on a forum, sometimes angrily. I don't see anything wrong with that.

But, like I said above, in this topic I'll try to stick to just praising Tennant's awesomeness for the rest of my viewing of the show, since I'm pretty sure my problems with everything else have been stated and won't be changing. The overall writing won't get better, Ritter won't magically become a better actress or get better material, and her supporting cast won't suddenly have a point or get even slightly tolerable material. So, unless something particularly atrocious happens, I'm trying to focus on the real star of the show and suffer through the horribleness without making more of an issue of it.

Who says you have to look back? If your opinion is different from the vast majority it just means you have a different opinion. Congrats!

I for instance, have no earthly idea what fans see in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. I've only ever seen the first movie because it bored me silly and I couldn't bring myself to watch the next two, but people fall all over themselves for that nine hours and change of monotony. I'm in the tiny minority. I've learned to live with it.

So kirk just likes David Tennant. I only watched multiple seasons of Buffy because I liked Anya. I hated everybody else.
