I.... I Give Up. Car Damage.... Again.

So, a couple weeks ago I told a story of how my car was hit by a dog causing some minor damage to a rear door. Shit happens, dogs don't look both ways before crossing the street, whatever.

Well, today? Today I get called to the front of store and as I go up there I meet with the HR lady and she has with her one of our cashiers (probably 18/19 year old guy) and turns out he collided/scraped against my parked car while pulling into his space. :sigh:

Again, bought in March, not even 4,000 miles on it.

Now more dealing with insurance, adjusters, estimates, etc. I was going in Monday to begin the original repairs. Now I'm postponing that in hopes of getting both of these repairs done in one shot.

Damn, dude, sorry to hear that. Your car is apparently a damage magnet.

I guess with the variety and escalation of accidents you should be on the lookout for a derailed train hitting your parked car next followed by a rogue comet fragment after that.

At least the insurance is taking care of everything. It's a pain in the ass but you'll be back in working order soon enough. Tell them to install the shields immediately this time though, and not postpone them until Tuesday again.

Yeah, thanks, man. It's just a hassle dealing with insurance companies. Just hoping I can make this as smooth as possible between two different companies in two separate incidents.

The thing I'm curious about on this though is that how do they repair or replace that panel on the car? It's not like the front-fender where it's one, smallish, piece. The rear-fender is attached to the C-Pillar, the rail along the roof up to the front fender, and is attached to the shrouding over the frame along the bottom. I mean, it's pretty much the entire side of the car! If they can just "pop it out" they'd still have to remove a large piece of metal to do it and if popping it out won't fix it then they got to replace this entire piece!

I know expense isn't an issue since it's not costing me anything, but still a wonder to me. And even though it's still a new car without very faded paint, I worry about color-matching any newly-painted piece with the rest of the car. (Since it's not like they paint the entire car when repairing damage parts. Normally it's just the damaged part and maybe an adjacent part.) I really worry about how it's all going to look when everything is fixed.

Since getting this car I've been parking in more-or-less the same place I always park. Which, granted, is a more "heavily" trafficked area since it's where a lot of employees park, never had any problems there. My boss parks his new car in a different spot in a far end of the lot that's not as heavily used, to minimize damages. Guess I might have to start doing that for better protection. I mean, I accept door-dings and such (the door guards on the side prevent most door-ding damages) but an actual collision like this?

The kid was apparently driving his parents' SUV (a Dodge Durango.) I'm guessing it's not the usual car he drives and he misjudged it's "footprint" (if you will) when turning into the adjacent space. But considering how extensive this damage is he must have had pretty good momentum/speed pulling into a space flanked by two other cars.

I mean, I pull into my space at pretty good speed but that's at 6:00 in the morning when no one else is in the other spaces. But if I'm pulling into a space between two cars? I pull in tightly, slowly, and carefully.

Sigh. After going back into work and talking with people about it, I began to stew on it more and more which ended up making me angrier. Luckily a co-worker had a "Vitamin-X" to share with me which made things... Sigh. Better.:)

But I really should have sprung for the shields, but they were packaged in the next-higher trim-level. Maybe it's something I can get added on somewhere down the road, a Tax-Refund "Bonus" for myself. That and a tractor beam. Man, the times I wish I had a tractor beam.

That or the higher-end in-dash information center, the one I can get "apps" for and have things like weather, navigation, etc.

Look at it this way. The cashier is the one who has to explain to HIS PARENTS why he damaged THEIR car...at least the only car that you endured damage to, was your own.

In a nutshell: He's in trouble; you aren't.

I've been living in the same apartment for probably a decade now.

One winter my car got hit while in my shared driveway twice within three months. In the latter instance it appeared that someone parked perpendicularly to me had literally just backed right into my car. Maybe they got into a skid or something...

Nothing of the kind has happened since then.

Hopefully it's just a statistical anomaly for you as well.

So sorry to hear about Car 2.0, Trekker. One piece of advice I have regarding Insurance. Ask if they are putting in Genuine parts or aftermarket parts. In Illinois, some insurance companies I have done business with give the option, depending on your policy. If you have a choice, ask them for a printout of both costs, genuine and aftermarket. The difference may be big, but also may impact your choice, considering resale value, down the road.

Also, price out a Tritanium refit. Might be just the thing! :)

Do I even *want* to Google what this means? :wtf: No, I'm guessing I probably don't.

And if they offer you the warp core option, always take it. :p

No! Haven't you seen "Cause and Effect"? The next time somebody scrapes him like that, the resulting M/AM explosion will take out his entire city! :p

No good in Illinois! The cost for peripheral damage as the Field forms got to be prohibitive, and they rescinded and removed our warp coils. Good news, however! Before all that happened, I went to Warp in my Junior High School staff parking lot.

It's gone now.

:guffaw:

I'm getting the repairs done at the dealer, and consiering the age of the car the better be using genuine parts! The estimate I have from the dog-damage is based on using OEM parts, I'm sure it'll be the same for *this* damage. But, yeah, it was already something had on my mind. I've no plans to resell the car, but I do want it to maintain original parts.

Do I even *want* to Google what [Vitamin-X] means? :wtf: No, I'm guessing I probably don't.

Xanax, it's an anti-anxiety medication. Good at dulling your stresses and emotions when things are heavy on your mind.

(Though that's what I, and people who I know who take it, call it. "Vitamin X" more commonly refers to Ecstasy and I'm sure some-kind-of unspeakable sex act.)

A couple of weeks ago I was rear-ended in a Chic-Fil-A drive through (I'll let that irony sink in) by some 18 year old kid driving his mom's car.

Pretty much ruined the front of their Honda Accord, only scratched the bumper of our Ford Escape. Didn't even want to involve our insurance. The kid has enough to deal with.

Well, yeah, he's eating at Chick-Fil-A.

Okay. I was like, wait, did he just say his coworker gave him some Ecstasy?
