Jessica Jones-- Marvel/Netflix

2. Did anyone look out for Stark Tower?

I saw a reference to some reviewer seeing the MetLife Building in the background, and that means no Stark/Avengers Tower. Daredevil also had the MetLife Building where Stark Tower "should" be. And one or two Agents of SHIELD episodes have used stock Manhattan skyline shots with no Tower.

Up to episode 6.

Does anyone else think that Simpson looks a bit like Captain America in his civilian clothes?
might this be deliberate somehow?

And yeah I kept looking for the Stark/Avengers Tower in the background but couldn't spot it.
Though I am pretty sure it should have been there in some scenes that showed the skyline of New York very clearly.

I also am looking for cameos of established characters from at least Daredevil if not the Movies.
Night Nurse could have been potentially in some scenes, but wasn't and I can't shake the feeling that Murdock & Nelson could easily have been worked into the plot if they wanted to.

For some reason, both Daredevil and JJ have shown *very* clear shots of where Avengers tower really should be but haven't had it comped in. Seems a bit odd since both have used it in promotional materials

And yes, I noticed the resemblance too and while it may not have been a deciding factor in casting him, I'm sure they're aware of it and it sort of works with the direction the character takes later on.

I laughed so hard at the 'Sweet Christmas.'

I finished it about an hour ago (here it's Saturday night at the moment, and I started on Friday). I actually liked it a little more than Daredevil because I thought it managed to balance the dark content and moments of levity a little better. That's not to say I didn't like Daredevil, it's just JJ ended up to my taste. It was dark, but it never seemed wearingly depressing.

Yeah, I saw the MetLife building and wondered if that was where Stark Tower was supposed to be. I wonder why they didn't add it as an easter egg. Couldn't be that hard or expensive to do. Oh well.

I saw the first 5 episodes last night and hope to finish up this weekend.

- Now that Kilgrave is out in the open at this point...

...he's less sinister and more of a fascination. They even made his manipulations of others seem a bit comical.

- Jessica's powers, though useful, seem extraneous to the story but at least we have some good bits about heroism and a fresh take on the reluctant hero.

I liked seeing the costume even though she didn't put it on or appear to have a career as a costumed vigilante.

Maybe Avengers Tower has a cloaking device that makes it look like the MetLife Building from Hell's Kitchen...?

Or it's a Mighty Morphin' Power Tower?

I've only watched the first episode so far, FWIW.

I watched the first episode last night--it was very intense. Kilgrave was originally a Daredevil villain so I wonder if the writers are considering a return for Tennant in the future?

I find it funny that the very dark Jessica Jones and Daredevil exist in the same Universe as a Talking raccoon and a Living tree...

While that's also true in the comics here in a real life series its really stands out as humorous.

That's what makes the MCU so interesting. I love the different styles and tones. We also get to see what a world with superheroes looks like to the average person on the ground.

The other kids on the recording... Did they have what Kevin had?

I don't think so. IIRC one girl had what looked like surgical braces on her legs. Seems like a collection of largely unrelated medical experiments on children.
Given that it seems Killgrave's parents seemed to be working out of their own lab at the university rather than as part of some super secret Hydra facility (I think Hydra would be a safe bet at this point, no?) It's possible the only connection they had was the grant money.

I do wonder how that footage ended up with Cage's late wife though. I mean it can't be a coincidence that she happened to have that info, can it? Maybe there's a link here to the experiment that make Luke the way he is too. One assumes that'll be covered in his solo show.

Incidentally, Daredevil also touched on some shadowy group apparently dealing with "gifted" children. Perhaps there's a connection there?

Oh and I liked the "I know there's no such thing as elves" line. Apparently the Greenwich incident wasn't accurately reported. ;)

Wow, three eps in and this is great, better than Daredevil (and I really liked that one), Krysten is awesome, as was expected. This might turn out to be my favourite Marvel show.

Better than the 2017 Howard the Duck Holiday Special?

Oh.

I just realized the ramifications of what I just said.

Duck Jesus vs. Duck Santa Claus.

Marvel is gonna get so much hate mail.

(Mohammad was also a Duck but let's leave that alone right now.)

Try to imagine an anthropomorphised Duck, with a crown of thorns, dying on a cross saying to Duck God "Forgive them father they know not what they do."

I think I might end up rooting for the bad guy this time around. :D

Am i the only one who thinks that Jessica should just do what Peggy Carter did against that Russian Scientist guy and get some ear plugs to walk up to Killgrave and just hit him really hard on the head? XD

From what I gather, Purple Man was something of a z-lister joke character prior to his appearance in the Alias books, which made him WAY more of a serious and very sinister threat.

The Killgrave of the show is a very different animal again in that he's somewhat more sympathetic...or at least relatable on a human level. The show touches more on the psychological side of his powers, specifically what would it do to a person when people will always do exactly what you say, whereas the Bendis Killgrave has much more of an emphasis on the charismatic bastard/insecure neurotic side of things. Think one of those stereotypical, coked up 80's wall street stockbrokers mixed with a very sleazy Hollywood agent who's more of a prima donna than his clientèle.

Sort of reminds me on some levels of that old Twilight Zone episode with Bill Mummy as the kid with the freakishly god-like powers.

Ear plugs had occurred to me.
Non verbal language.

Even with cheese stuffed ears you'd also have to not look at him, for Murdercorpse not to use a couple simple gestures to force a standerby to dig the cheese out or kill themselves.

Jessie Custer (who is also being made into TV as we speak) from Preacher comics has a similar powerset. The bad guys got their shit together by sending non-english speaking mercenaries to chase him down, and were thusly immune to "The Word of God".

I have a rather compact smartphone. I'd prefer waiting to watch until I can see it on a decent-sized screen.

There are smartphones with a tv-out. If you have one of them you can watch it on your tv :)

Not on the 12-year-old TV I have. Unless you know where I can get a MicroUSB-to-coaxial adapter.

Ear plugs had occurred to me.

Killgrave's power is pheromonal, isn't it? Although I guess he can't order you around if you can't hear what he's saying. Still, if you were under his pheromonal influence, you'd probably want to listen to him and would voluntarily take out the earplugs.

The Comics Should Be Good blog just did a post about the debut comics appearances of the show's characters. The original Purple Man story in Daredevil, at least the excerpts they show, was pretty interesting. He wasn't this creepy mind-rapist guy, but a charming, casual guy that everyone just automatically liked so much that they'd do anything he asked. Though obviously that power is really creepy if you explore its ramifications fully, and that's what Alias did.
