Rough Beasts kinda sorta forms an unofficial trilogy with DRG3's follow-up two-parter, Plagues of Night and Raise the Dawn, with Zero Sum Game taking place 'off-screen' during the early segments of Plagues. But as Thrawn correctly says, ZSG was released first of all four. Don't worry, you'll still be able to follow it all anyway.

.

Cool. Thanks, lvsxy808. :)

Is Rough Beasts necessary to understand Plagues of Night or Raise the Dawn? I tried to read that immediately following Zero Sum Game and could only make it to page zzzzzzzzzzz. Also, how are the other DRG3 books paced? It seems like his name appears on a lot of the books at the center of the Typhon Pact and Fall series...

He definitely writes slow, but it's worth the buildup. He meticulously constructs narratives that pay off in the most perfect ways... the lead in takes forever, but by the end I'm always glad I invested the time. You should definitely read Rough Beasts first.

Forgive me for asking if this has been answered somewhere else, but having read both Seekers 3 and this book so closely together, the name Taryl just jumps out at me.

Is the Taryl from the Seekers series the same Taryl from Zero Sum Game? I know it's unlikely, but both are Orion females with similar hairstyles and from the same author. Maybe the ZSG Taryl is a descendant of the Seekers Taryl or they're the same character but brought into the 24th century in the same manner M'Ress was brought to the New Frontier series.

Has David Mack ever said one way or another in some previous interview or thread?

Since sitting around waiting for the next Voyager novel is boring I have decided to take the plunge and read the Typhon Pact Series. Made my way through Destiny,A Singular Destiny and Losing the Peace. Enjoyed all of them. I really like this whole shake up of the Star Trek Universe.

So on to Zero Sum Game. Haven't read anything with Bashir in it for a long time. :)

Be advised that ZSG kicks off what has become an ongoing Bashir narrative that includes (or is closely connected to) the following titles (which should be read in the order of publication, as follows):

Section 31:
Abyss

David Weddle and Jeffrey Lang

Mirror Universe:
Rise Like Lions

David Mack
(Bashir isn't in this book, but its story sets up Disavowed)

Typhon Pact:
Zero Sum Game

David Mack

Cold Equations, Book II:
Silent Weapons

David Mack
(Bashir isn't in this book, but its story sets up Disavowed)

The Fall:
A Ceremony of Losses

David Mack

Section 31:
Disavowed

David Mack

With any luck, I will soon have news concerning my planned sequel to Disavowed, Section 31: Control.

Thank you! Looking forward to all of them. Good thing I'm a fast reader.

Finished it. That was a pretty easy read. The story had a nice flow to it. It was interesting to read more about the Breen.

Poor Julian. Will he ever find true love?
