Capaldi says Clara's departure is clever and very sad

Ending her character on the show has been done in a sad-but-clever manner according to Capaldi, who spoke on the UK’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show Wednesday morning. “It’s not quite what you think is gonna happen,” Capaldi told host Nick Grimshaw. “You think what’s gonna happen is gonna happen and then something else happens… It’s always clever the way these things are done on Doctor Who, so get lots of hankies ready. It’s sad over a number of weeks.
...
Additionally, showrunner Stephen Moffat said in an interview with Movie Player, “Clara is gone and will never return… I can only say that what will happen will shock, surprise and terrify. Strictly in that order.”

I do like a good character exit.. But does anyone long for a more tame departure? Sarah's "Don't forget me", Martha's "I'm outta here, thanks for everything", or even Tegan's "It's not fun anymore"? There's something to be said for a companion's finale that doesn't have galactic consequences...

I agree. It seems like Moffat likes for everything to be big. So, the Doctor has to have a big dark secret for running away, Clara has to be the "impossible girl" who is literally split across the Doctor's entire timeline, etc... Sometimes understated is ok.

Amy and Rory ALMOST had that kind of ending before Moffat brought them back for first half of Season 7. I've come to appreciate "The God Complex" ending a lot more as the years go by. Amy and Rory were by far my favorite companions, so I definitely wanted them back for more, but looking back at the actual story, "The God Complex" would have been a nice, quiet send off for them.

Amy: "Why now?"
Doctor: "Because you're still breathing."

If she dies and sees a ####ing tunnel and Danny is standing at the end of it, I am going to toss my ####ing toys.

She's already all over the Doctor's timestream so she'll live on in some manner, even as an echo of her original self. She might pop up somewhere else.

Could the Clara we've been seeing since TOTD be a splinter? Maybe the original (if there ever was an original) ceased to be as soon as she entered the Doctor's timestream.

As I've said in the other thread, I just don't want her to be killed purely for shock value. I love the character, so I'd prefer her death to not be "Kate on NCIS-esque." She should die saving her best friend, the Doctor, and doing what she loves, time traveling.

If Ashildr kills her in some sort of vendetta, I will HATE the show.

"You made me immortal, Doctor, and now my life sucks because everyone close to me dies while I live on, so I'm bitter that Clara gets to travel with you so I'm going to take her from you! Now, see what happens when you break the rules, Doctor? You suffer!"

If that happens, I will find it very hard to forgive Moffat.

And oh yeah, no Danny. I think "Last Christmas" wrapped that up really well, so it would be cheesy for him to show up again.

Capaldi's Doctor is divergent to the timeline the shards of Clara look after.

Her Doctor died at Trenzelor.

Yes, they can cross paths, but Capaldi's Doctor is never the mission she is on, and if he pushes Clara off course, then the Great Intelligence can win where he once lost, although with infinite Clara's available, Claras (Clarae, Clarai?) by the thousand could be thrown at any one victory by the intelligence until a Clara prevails to route him.

Although, the hours or days each Clara needs to save the Doctor at each specific crisis point they've been tasked with, is a dropped penny in all of their natural life spans.

Some Clara's might be 90 before they get to save the Doctor, while others might be his saviour at 5 years old and then live a natural life till 90 despite her reason for being fulfilled 8 and a half decades earlier.

Then there's the Clara on Galifrey who told the first Doctor (and Susan) to take the right TARDIS... Was she a human being or a Timelord or... A HYBRID!!!!!?????

Clara dies, sees Danny on the other side. "Hey, I've been waiting for you since Christmas. Where've you been, already?"

Or, Amy meets her and says "You, too?"

Somewhere back in time, I think it was River who said the Doctor hates saying goodbye. Obviously, she meant Moffatt - dude just doesn't want to end things.

Well, the only sad end for me at this point would be Clara not dying  But, as long as she's gone, and hopefully in a way they can't bring her back from, I'll be happy enough.

There's more than enough time for Jenna to flip flop her 5 year plan, and get extra scenes shot for the new Christmas special to invert whatever grisly eradication Clara is well ####ing past due for, LIKE SHE DID LAST YEAR!

There's a reason why "Face The Raven" will be the only episode this series where the Doctor is dressed like he was last series.

There's also a reason why he said "Longest month of my life" in regard to Clara's 'death' in this week's episode.

Someone's been a very naughty boy...

So we've repeatedly been told Clara is becoming more and more like the doctor

"Death in Heaven" with "I'm the doctor"

What if in order to fulfill the prophecy that the doctor has to die Clara has to take the brunt of it?
