The ultimate science fiction TV remake thread

Cool! I'd start by bringing back at least one of the original cast of students to be the current Commander of the Academy/Space Command - perhaps Ric Carrott (Chris Gentry) or Jason himself (Craig Littler). Maybe some of the other original SA actors as recurring faculty members. Make it an hour-a-week series combining the premises of both of the original series. An accent on adventure, but with as much real science as possible and an effort to keep the more campy stuff to a minimum. And one of the ideas I also had was at some point Loki would just show up out of the blue returning to known space (having left sometime after the end of the original series accompanied by Gampu to find his homeworld (Gampu didn't make it back)...with a mysterious secret and a vital message for Star Command. With the right touch this could be a great vehicle for good, honest, old-fashioned space opera. Plus I think the Seeker was a spiffy spacecraft, and I still (after forty years) really want a set of blueprints for the Academy facility.

Indeed... find a cool way to blend both SA and JoSC.

Loki and Gampu could very well have had a run in with Dragos whilst out on their mysterious trip. Gampu could well have been a casualty of that encounter, leaving Loki alone, terrified, and needing to let SA/SC know of Dragos' existence.

Craig Littler could play as commander of Star Command, and obviously we'd need a young actor to play Jason. Littler could even play the more by-the-book Commander Stone (who took over for James Doohan in JoSC's second season).

One of the things I loved about the opening of the second season with the introduction of Commander Stone was the exchange that he and Jason had after Jason was showing off in a Starfire. Jason's reply to him was something you never really heard in a kids' sci-fi show before.

"You should know, I'm not officially a part of Star Command."

The exchange was fairly tense for live action Saturday morning space opera fare.

I also loved how Sid Haig portrayed Dragos. Yes, there was a wee bit of camp in there, but he actually put a really intimidating coat on Dragos. You could look and see that at times, if Haig could've taken the edge just a little further, he would have.

The Seeker was a really cool looking transport. I'm partial to the Starfire, myself, but both were really cool craft.

JoSC had the benefit of a good special effects team as well, some of them being veterans of a little known space fantasy film at the time called "Star Wars". And it showed, especially in the space battle scenes.

My weekends in 1978 were bookended with good space fantasy. Jason of Star Command on Saturday mornings, and Battlestar Galactica on Sunday nights. :)

When I get my computer and the programs I need, I plan on doing models/animations of the Seeker, Starfire, the Academy planetoid, the drone Dragon fighters, and both of Dragos' command ships.
 
In threads like this where movies are concerned I usually say everything I've ever wanted to see remade already has been. For TV I've got a bigger list:

There's nothing wrong with the TV series that already exists.


I'd like a wrap-up of The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. It ended on a cliffhanger, and the producer tried to get the go-ahead for at least a TV-movie to tie up the story as best as possible, but wasn't able to. Of course one of the series stars who was a child at the time is now an adult (Katie Stuart, who currently plays Monroe on "The 100")... but that could still be dealt with if they took a different route with the story than what would have been done if the show had been continued in 1999.
 
How about "Captain Power and the Soldiers of Fortune?"

They could make gimmicky interactive toys to go with it. But this time, they would actually work right!

The last Night Stalker was the perfect embodiment of the stylish slick network update that completely misses the point.

Looks better and smarter than the original, too, from what little I can see of it.

Would like to see Andromeda re-done with a real budget and with Robert Hewitt Wolfe left alone to do it the way he wants to.

Same here, but if said project gets off of the ground, it needs to get an unknown actor to play the main character-Kevin Sorbo's ego helped do to the show what fans hated.

Wouldn't mind a new version of Space: 1999 with a lot less silliness in the science. I've got some ideas for some fun stuff you could do with a stranded moon base...

The only way this is going to work is if the show is like this concept (here's the art and stories.)

Both might have to be on Cartoon Network and/or Nickelodeon to work, but I can see these two back on TV somewhat.

With Joss Whedon finished with Marvel we're in a perfect spot to continue the Buffyverse for a new generation. It can follow two sisters who are both slayers in high school with a classic Buffy character (say Xander?) serving in the Giles role. Throw in some guest appearances from the original cast and we're got a hit on our hands. Girl Meets World did it very successfully, so Buffy can too.
