What a fun little episode! Very slice of life, and filled with that Nightmare Night atmosphere we love so much. Fluttershy was pure adorable in this episode, as I think we knew she would be, plus I can't be the only one who always wants to squeeze the stuffing out of her every time I see her. Also, did anyone else also feel that the cubby hole Fluttershy was staying in on Nightmare Night was rather appealing? I couldn't be the only one who found it cozy.
The costumes for the Mane Six and Spike were great. I was giggling just watching Rarity's mermaid tail slap the *yay* out of Flutters every couple of seconds. Spike's two headed dragon was cool, Applejack's cowardly lion was too cute for words, Rainbow Dash's astronaut was awesome (of course), Twilight's royal guard uniform was seriously ho-, uh, really cute *ahem*, and Pinkie Pie's roller girl was out-of-the-box and wonderful, just like herself.
The little games were cute, the candy bags were adorable! We also now know that Fluttershy loves fruit flavored taffies. Letting Flutters try to scare everypony was brilliant, and I think the attempt showed us far more about Fluttershy's own insecurities than anything else. For our other Five (and Spike), it was just a minor inconvenience, but for Fluttershy it was truly scary. I like that we get to see this insight into her psyche.
So we get to the corn maze, and it just looked like so much fun. Granny's way too real horsehead, Big Mac's very obviously Big Mac mummy (lol), all of it made for the perfect seasoning. To be honest, the scene that did make me go "Eek!" was the fake Granny Smith skeleton. That was actually creepy to me, and Applejack's reaction would have been my own!
Of course, then there's Flutterbat, whom I find utterly precious. They show her hear in costume as a fruit bat, but I'm curious as to whether or not she still has those former traits. Oh well, either way, she was too cute for words, as well. Still, she did a great job scaring the ponies (it would have scared me!), and we get to see that special deviousness from Angel Bunny, who uses his powers for good this time around.
I also like that Fluttershy, having seen her friends scared, couldn't live with the idea that she caused it, and so graciously bowed out. I like that her friends didn't pressure her into doing it with so many reservations. That's how good friends work.
All in all, this is one of those Halloween episodes they need to show on regular TV every year as a special, just like they do "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." Seriously, it's that good. Wow, for a slice of life episode, I had a lot to say! I think I just love these types of episodes, and hope for many more of them next season (since we're coming up on the last few closing out this season).
This episode gets an "A" from me, and makes me want to say "Nightmare Night, what a fright! Give me something good to bite!"
