Okay all - since things got quickly wrapped up for the August/September challenge, I'm going to go ahead and start the October one so that everyone should hopefully have plenty of time to get their submissions in for the end of next month. While I was working on my last submission, and seeing the occasional thread on the subject, I often wonder what a remastered version of the Animated Series would look like by 21st century standards, had it not been decanonized by Roddenberry. So, this month's challenge is to take an aspect (or more) of TAS and remaster it with 21st design aesthetic in mind. A character, a scene, a ship, anything from TAS. Good luck, all!
Should be interesting! And a reminder to all: Remember to email your entries to ptrope (at) gmail (dot) com by midnight 10/31, AND put your final entry in this thread! We all still want to see the individual WIP threads of course!
Mmmmm, while I contemplate this one, here are my old Playmates customs of Arex and M'Ress. M'Ress and Arex landing party by Ian McLean, on Flickr
Since they weren't done for this contest, I can't submit them, but I've been doing 'remastered TAS' stuff for awhile, now . AquaShuttle: Bonaventure (and the bridge, as well):
Thanks, publiusr; I thought that using an actual Matt Jefferies design as the basis gave it a pedigree, over simply bulging out parts of the Enterprise design. But I still kept the idea of the nacelles with the bulges .
I don't think it's eligible for the monthly contest, but here's a few renders of the TAS Orion ship that I came up with for 'Starship Challenger'. As noted in 137th Gebirg's post on the same subject, it's an interesting exercise to try and flesh out the original in 3D.
Now that is what I took this challenge to be about, monodox: Taking the idea presented in TAS and showing a more modern, obviously-produced-in-the-2010s look. Very nicely done.
That's a pretty good Orion ship by monodox, and I love everything about Ptrope's "Time Trap" interpretation.
Wow! Now THAT's what I'm talking about! I agree with Shawnster - put that thing in front of a starfield and I'll vote for it over my own submission! Interesting choice over the area in back. I always took it to be massive modular cargo holds but you turned it into an engine assembly. Nicely done!
BOO!!! DST is over, Halloween is a treasured memory once more, and we need entries!I've received an entry from Klaus, but no entries in this thread, and I see several other threads in the forum, as well. I'm sure the pumpkin cider has distracted us, so we'll give it a few hours to wear off - then, be sure to e-mail your entries to ptrope at gmail dot com, as well as post it here so I don't miss any, and we'll get this poll polling!
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. A little late, but here's my official entry for the competition. Kail, feel free to post the images on your site - if you need anything specific please let me know.
And I have entries from Klaus, monodox and 137th Gebirg . The poll will go up this evening; any more entries, get them to me via e-mail or I won't be able to decide which one you wanted to enter from your thread. I see at least 3 more potential contestants out there (Kail, Soran77, Shawnster) from whom I have not yet heard.
