Okay this is not a thread about personal preference it is about critically acclaimed.

Star Trek 2009

RT 95%
Metacritic 83/100

I don't see star wars topping it. trek 2009 is likely to be Abrams best sci fi film.

I don't know? I imagine Star Wars may struggle against expectations, more than anything.

"Right! This calls for immediate wild speculation!"

... Except, no, it doesn't.

A 95% RT score is difficult to top, so it seems unlikely.

About the only thing that does seem likely is that I'll personally prefer TFA to ST'09. And that's more a function of how lousy I thought the first Star Trek was -- it'll be hard for Abrams to do worse.

ST09 was a complete reboot. It was fresh. A new take on things. It felt energized.

If Abrams manages to shake up the formula enough, it might blindside the critics in the same way that ST09 did. But he had a clean slate with Star Trek, and I'm not sure he'll have that with Star Wars. From the looks of the trailer it seems a little grittier and more realistic, but I'm only speculating on literally seconds of footage. We'll see.

But I don't think there will be a 95% RT score.

When it comes to stuff like Star Wars, I really don't care at all what the critcs say. As much as I love Abrams Trek movies, I'm expecting TFA to be even better. Abrams wasn't much of a Trek fan, but he's a huge Star Wars fan, so I'm expecting to see that passion reflected on screen.
I don't see why this conversation really deserves a thread all to itself. We already have a thread devoted to TFA, and I really don't see why this couldn't have been a part of that thread. When it comes to stuff like TFA I like to try to hit all of the threads for it, but I don't always have a ton of time to visit a whole bunch of threads that are basically dicussing the same thing when there are so many threads on other topics I want to get to also.

I think it will because this time people won't keep saying "it's like Star Wars".

"It's not real Star Wars."
"It's not Pure Star Wars."
"I miss the Prequels, at least those felt like Star Wars despite their flaws."
"Disney and Abrams have raped my childhood."

Predictions

1) JJ wets himself in front of han and luke and makes senior citizens far to important for their own good.

2) Studio forces him to place to high respect on ep 1-2-3.
Crap like mediclorines comes up again.

3) Just endless plugs and other nerd porn that just destracts from the story.

4) A plot that is too action pack and all over the place to feel like there is any reak arc in the new movies.

5) Expanded universe plugs and teasing that cause the movie to be in a vacuum isolated from anything like an action war.

6) Lack of any depth outside of what you see in previews.

Regardless dumb people will love it endlessly.

Based upon what, exactly?:confused::confused::confused:

I love Star Wars, so I'm a dumb person.

I see.

Interesting. I kind of feel that way too.

That was in reference to the lastest avengers film not star wars.

Compared to that I think episode one is a work of art.

EDIT: I'm a fan of both tmp and ep1 so I"m not setting the bar that high.

However thors boot getting a antivirsus from porn is hardly a recipe for a film.

What does Avengers have to do with Star Wars? Abrams was not even involved in that one. We have no idea what Disney's involvement has been with TFA, and we do know that Kathleen Kennedy is still the head of LFL and is directly overseeing the project.

Based upon promo material, I see little (if any) EU nods, or concepts being presented. I see little that indicates studio meddling, and even less that are going to be Abrams having "fan boy" moments-the man is a professional.

So, really confused at those conclusions.
