AA has left the Blue Jays; lots of rumors swirling that he and Shapiro had one meeting in which Shapiro gave him so much shit about not hugging prospects that he decided to walk.

Chase off the guy who gave you the team's best season in 22 years, nice start to your tenure, Shapiro.

Outside of Grandson and Murphy, no one on the Mets have been hitting. Wright, Cespedes, Duda, Conforto, d'Arnaud all have been real quiet with the bat. Without them getting some, a few hits the Mets are done for.

Outside of Grandson and Murphy, no one on the Mets have been hitting. Wright, Cespedes, Duda, Conforto, d'Arnaud all have been real quiet with the bat. Without them getting some, a few hits the Mets are done for.

That's how it was for the Cubs. Fowler, Schwarber and Soler were the only ones consistently getting on base in the post-season.

And I'll admit the Mets pitchers were lights out, but the Cubs have had success against better.

Bryant's home and away splits in the postseason were just absolutely ridiculous.

But, hey, that's what happens in a small sample size series, especially when you have a bunch of young players who have been playing more innings than they ever have in their lives. (I've mentioned this before, but not keeping Arrieta on a shorter leash was probably the biggest tactical mistake Maddon made in the NLDS and NLCS; he was 90 innings north of his career high and ultimately an arm has to give out.)

This is the guy that most Blue Jays fans wanted canned before the All-Star break. Suddenly, he is a savior.

Anthopoulos pulled off some great trades, but they were made out of desperation by a lame-duck GM, who knew he was in a contract year. His trading, while bringing in stars like Donaldson, Price and Tulo, left us without some of our best prospects that could've kept the team competitive in the future.

I said to a friend today that prospects in baseball don't really matter as much as they do in other sports, but these were prospects that are performing now in the majors or on are on the cusp of doing so (Syndergaard, D'Arnaud, Norris, Graveman).

While he was a good GM (somehow getting rid of Reyes comes to mind), it is not the end of the world that Alex Anthopoulos is no longer the GM of the Toronto Blue Jays.

I'll wait for you to say that after the Jays do a post-1994 Expos bloodletting. The only reason you give a guy like Shapiro full control over baseball operations in 2015 is if you want to cut your budget, hard.

Edit: I mean, a company like Rogers could theoretically have an unlimited payroll, but the only explanation for bringing Mark Shapiro in to be AA's boss is if you're pissed off about the payroll expansion and you want to shave costs from everything. That's what the dude does.

It's now come out that Shapiro wanted full control and final say over player / personnel decisions and AA told him to fuck off.

And that’s where it broke. In a face-to-face meeting with the senior members of the Jays’ front office, Shapiro said he strongly disagreed with some of the deadline choices that sent prospects out. The initial contract offer to Anthopoulos, according to an official who was briefed on the talks, was a two-year deal, with the second year an option.

Good for him for spitting on that joke of an offer.
