Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

There actually was going to be more music for the Luke/Vader fight in ESB, but it was cut by Kershner. Most of the cut/alternate stuff is on the soundtracks.

Basically, it's still a bit understated, it's basically a bit of the Imperial march and a bit more of the mournful theme played in the scene before (When Luke spots Boba, Han and the troopers), but then it closes with a triumphant statement of the force, Yoda, and the main theme when Luke gains the upper hand and knocks Vader over the chamber.

There's also other moments in the film where the music was left out or changed, notably when the rebels discover the droid and and the Imperial fleet enters the movie. Originally, it was going to be a sort of slow build and then a great rendition of the march. Instead in the film we get silence and then the regular, somewhat more subdued version of the march. It's still a great moment regardless.

Some people have reedited the lost music with footage from the movie. It's interesting how much of a different 'feel' it gives things.

There's an alternate version I think of the ROTJ sail barge battle music too. The final film mainly uses arrangements of the main theme and rebel fanfare mostly.

It's been reported btw that the music in the trailer is actually not Williams composing BTW.

Vader's final assault on Luke in TESB works really well without any music, and the music turning back on when Luke's gets his hand sliced off. That's all really effective, and I've always liked the music of Luke out on the ledge.

By the way, a question I've always had about TESB musical soundtrack, is the bell sound right around the time Vader knocks down Luke and tells him he is beaten part of the musical soundtrack or is it just a sound effect? Either way, I've always liked that, too. It reverberates with a tone, so it does sound like a bell.

^^ that was awesome! It's funny, the way it's cut, it makes it look like Cloud City and Hoth are the same battle.

You know, I'm really curious about the titles for 8 and 9. Both the OT and PT had titles that sorta connected/mirrored.

A New Hope/The Phantom Menace (talks of a rising force)
The Empire Strikes Back/Attack of the Clones (talks of a attacking force)
Return of the Jedi/Revenge Of The Sith (talks of a shift in the Force)

The Force Awakens really connects with 4 and 1 in terms of title, I feel. So yeah, I hope 8 and 9 will connect with their counterparts from the other trilogies as well.

I've always loved those cues, but I think Kershner made the right decision to keep the carbon freezing chamber part of the duel without music.

I think the film version works as intended. The alternate take starts without the sudden "threat" of the music as Luke is made to walk the plank.

I think there was always something of a creative battle between Williams and Ben Burtt, Burtt requested no music for the asteroid battle between Obi-Wan and Jango Fett in AOTC. And there were alot of sound effects in the carbon freezing chamber as well. TMP in the end so far was the showcase for Williams' music, I don't any of the six movies has as much of his music in it as that one does.

I'm still hoping for Episode VIII The Force Takes a Shower and Episode IX The Force Eats Breakfast.

Star wars The force goes back to sleep because he doesn't work on Saturday. Oh shoot! It is Friday!

Star wars The force rushes to work.

Star Wars Episode Whatever We're Up To Now: The Force Says to Hell with It and Takes an Unscheduled Personal Day
