Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

I'm not convinced that what we saw at the end there was what we were supposed to think. We didn't actually see the face of the person lying on the floor, and the ensuing explosion might serve to conceal the identity of the victim.
Ah, so it wasn't just me.

I'm a little disappointed that Mack and Daisy didn't liken Lash's transforming ability to the Hulk. You'd think that would be a SHIELD agent's primary reference point for the idea of a normal person transforming into a big superpowered creature.
Ah, so it wasn't just me.

Odd that the computer guy was named Dwight Frye. Apparently that's the name of a minor character from Marvel's short-lived New Universe continuity back in the '80s, who went by the name Bazooka and was a superpowered member of a black militant group. Very different from the character seen here.
Probably just a coincidence.

Nice googling.

The classic "Now-I'm-going-to-tell-you-everything.-Roll-credits." trick.

So there were two little possible fakeouts tonight. First, we're supposed to wonder if Lash is actually Rosalind's right hand man. Daisy and Mack talked about how he disappeared in a hurry right before Lash attacked, and we're certainly supposed to have our doubts about the ATCU in general. Second, yeah, we never saw Andrew's face. So is he really dead or not?

I'm strongly leaning towards that soldier guy not being Lash. But they just want to keep us guessing about him and the ATCU for a while still. And I was leaning towards Andrew actually being dead, and they just didn't want to show his dead face on tv. But man, why burn the evidence afterwards? Surely Shield can run dna and dental records. But yeah, the whole burning the crime scene trick screams that it's a fakeout.

That little Hunter vs May angle they set up there at the end was pretty surprising. There's nothing Hunter can do to make up for that perceived loss. There could be some pretty intense scenes between them over the next few weeks.

Yup. He's at least 4 times stronger than a regular Atlantean because he's a hybrid, but those dinky little ankle wings are completely his mutant affectations.

Namora his pink hybrid cousin didn't have Ankle wings.

I always thought Namor got his powers from being a hybrid.

His tiny little ankle wings that allow him to fly are his mutant ability.
Aha, I see. I never even thought about Namora not having wings.

What if Lash is Andrew.

Yeah, they teased out the Simmons angle too much this week...give us something substantial, if only a tidbit.

I thought the obvious suspect for Lash was Rosalind, the way they had her make that entrance when Daisy and Mac were talking about him...and that Banks (a.k.a. Dandy Johnny Shea to Hell on Wheels fans) was the more obscure/less obvious choice.

We saw Lash and Lincoln in the same place when Lash first appeared, didn't we?

Y

We saw Lash and Lincoln in the same place when Lash first appeared, didn't we?

Lash was introduced at the hospital looking for the Inhuman when he then engaged Daisy and Lincoln. We supposed he was after Lincoln because of the location and that is now reinforced since he didn't burn a hole through Daisy chest too when he had the opportunity

Does that mean Daisy's a "worthy" Inhuman in his eyes? Or could it be, as Trashmon is suggesting, that he's someone familiar with her or connected to her in some way (not necessarily Andrew, but someone)?

I know TV budget and everything, but I wonder if we'll eventually see more not-human looking IH's (besides Raina and Lash) as the show progresses (seeing as they're supposed to be like half their population) or are they leaving that bit out of the MCU?

While the Simmons cliffhanger at the end is typical TV fair, I agree it's better when you leave off with some shocking new info to obsess over (like last week) rather than with the same dearth you started the episode with. Something as simple as "For starters Fitz, [Big Reveal]..." [insert shocked look on Fitz's face and roll credits].

I feel like there is a connection between Andrew and the Inhumans we're not quite seeing. This episode he seemed especially peeved that Coulson didn't let him in on Alisha being there. I'm not saying he is an IH, only that his concern seems different from characters like Daisy, Coulson and Mack. It could be May and what the Cavalry incident did to her that's motivating him or it could be something else altogether.

Someone, somewhere theorized that because the MCU doesn't have Mutants instead of that 50-50 split of the comics Inhumans the cinema version will be mostly human looking like the X-Men. It adds to the they are secretly living amongst us paranoia.

.
Wouldn't Lincoln be even more worthy, since he was transformed via a pure terrigen exposure by other Inhumans?

On the other hand Lincoln probably went through the throwing a terrigen crystal on the ground version.

Daisy on the other hand went through terrigenesis in a Kree temple with a diviner aka what Inhumans were probably supposed to do.

This was a decent episode. The ATCU is still kind of annoying, but the stuff around it was entertaining. I hope Simmons reasons for wanting to go back are good, and actually get revealed next episode, to the audience at least if not the whole SHIELD crew. I'm better the Doctor won't actually be dead, and it was a fake out at the end, but honestly I just find him to be pretty bland, so I don't really care either way.

It's a possibility certainly. I thought that Von Strucker looked rather shaken at the end.

That made me think it was his partner dead on the floor, and the fire was started before he was ready - thus why he was high-tailing it in an apparent panic.

That's my thought. After all among sister faith in humanity one word difference in a ceremony is enough to declare the other as false, heretical, cultish. ... Perhaps before SHIELD took down Jaiying's group a cold war existed.

So were the two killed at the beginning of this week.

That being said, we don't know if the comics motivation is the same as the show's motivation.

We're going to hear a story from Simmons next week. Time will tell whether it's the whole truth or just part of the truth.

We're getting more than a story from Simmons, judging from the preview and from the episode title, "4,722 Hours." I daresay we'll be getting pretty extensive flashbacks showing Simmons's experiences in detail.
