The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

I ended up sorting all the little accessories over the years and keep them all in nice segmented containers like a propmaster.
Yes yes yes! These are the best! I definitely do enjoy going to the DIY store more than shopping for clothes ;)

(Sorry, the picture was too big. I changed it to a direct link. Please see - some of my - stuff in boxes here)

And yeah, Christmas ornaments or key rings make great accessories. I also have a case of beer bottles which is actually a bottle opener at the bottom. Once you start with this hobby, you look at the world with different eyes.

That is great that you were able to fit this house so perfectly.

Great pictures too - haha, I have that sink and wrench as well! From WWF ;)

Not sure yet what to do with it but something will come to mind. I also had no idea that the suitcase actually opens up, there are clothes inside!

Since we're talking about tools - look at this tool box. It is 1:6 scale though, for the bigger (like Barbie) figures:

I have no idea who Bob McKenzie and Doug are, but they look nice! Great Halloween scene as well - who brought the blood puddle with him?

But that lab is the best. Illuminated even. Just wonderful. Is it a standing set? Sometimes I am too sorry to have to take apart my scenes, but I do them on the kitchen table, no space for something permanent.

Can I borrow the green thing in first pic? I somehow ended up buying Spock with radiation poisoning (I didn't know at the time) and he could help repairing the Warp Core with that...

Well. We really need to invent beaming :(

(I do invite friends sometimes and we play together. Great fun, as one comes up with an idea, then the next one expands and so on. We laugh a lot. Do you have someone to play with?)

Please do! I'm sure they will be awesome. So many creative people in this world, I am always happy to find more!
Turns out, I loved miniatures all my life, way before I started with action figures. I had a shelf full with tiny adorable stuff.

I do prefer realistic looking stuff though, so while the MiWorld and Re-ment are cute in their way and totally fit your Mario brothers, they are a bit too colorful and would clash with my style. I found a page yesterday though where someone had sat their Doctor Who figures into the shops and they fit perfectly in size.

Your Sylvanian family stuff is cute too, but mostly too small for my figure size. I also do repainting of too pink Barbie stuff. It makes a difference.

I saw your leglamp in an old post. Now THAT is special! Loved it!

As for the IV stand, please see my answer to Coco Pops. I just want to add - I also would have had tiny x-rays but then thought they may not use them anymore in the future...

I started with collecting action figures too. I ended up sorting all the little accessories over the years and keep them all in nice segmented containers like a propmaster. I collect anything that interests me whether I need it or not.

As for me, I've mainly been collecting Nintendo/videogame figures as of late so I have a fine mix of realistic and cartoony though I love it all. I recently discovered Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters and fell in love instantly. I love the little accessories and minitures they have. Heck I bought one of their starter dollhouses and painted the roof and window's to look like Luigi's house as seen in the intro to Luigi's Mansion 2. And even better it's in scale with my nintendo figures. I couldn't be happier.

And for the leg lamp thanks, That's a christmas ornament I picked up last christmas. I love "A Christmas Story." so much that I couldn't resist getting it. Here's another picture of it.

And don't feel afraid about spamming. I'm sure nobody will mind a big helping of your photos. Heck I'll show off some more of mine to break the ice. :)

Hi I'm Bob McKenzie and this is my brother Doug. Good day aye!

And now for something completely different!
Something I whipped up for Halloween. Boy this Incredibles Deleted scene is scary...

And finally, my miniature multi-purpose lab made from various action figure accessories and stuff I had lying around in my junk box. I used tap lights and mini finger ring lights for the lighting and glowing effects. Practical effects on a miniature scale.

It was worth scrolling down just to see the picture of the Bob and Doug McKenzie action figures with their set and backdrop. Happy Election Day, Canada!

Nice stuff. I got 2 WWF bathroom sets. A clean and dirty bathroom set.

As for the green glowing piece. You're really going to love this. It's a cheap toothpick container that I filled with green glow in the dark play slime. Both I got at my local Dollar Tree. The pieces it's resting on is a piece for an underwater camera or something and piece of a VCR. It's not a standing set no. I have a small entertainment center that I use as my stage. Everything is interchangable but I'm not worried about messing anything up. It seems to get better each time I change it. :)

The figure with the blood puddle which was just piece of a Bloody foot halloween decoration. And the figure laying in the blood is Mr. Incredible's boss from the Incredibles. I got him a really long time ago.:guffaw:

I don't usually play with anyone though my mom will help give me new ideas from time to time. She's more into arts and crafts but loves miniatures equally.

Great tools by the way thank you for sharing. :)

Where do all the little consoles and stuff come from?

The consoles came with the Muppet's Pigs in Space action figure playset seen here. It only came with Miss Piggy, the others are sold sepertely. Another console came with my Star Wars Carbon Freezing Chamber Playset, Everything else was some random things I got at hobby lobby and pieces of a broken PS2 console I took apart and random things I got at a thrift store.

Oh how ingenious! I must try that. And here I was wondering all the time what use this slime was for anyone. Heh. I have an old container of photographic films which may do the trick as well.

It really looks phantastic. I'd never have guessed. This is a bit like a magician telling his tricks LOL

(should we probably only quote the parts we are replying to, otherwise it can get really messy with all those multiquoted posts)

Speaking of consoles, I can offer this one. My first Star Trek purchase in the Forbidden Planet in Cardiff of all places. When I had become a fan I had looked up possible action figures, but only found the Playmates ones, which were too small for my liking and also too shiny plastic and the faces, although cute, not realistic enough. Then in the Forbidden Planet I stumbled about these two sets (Kirk with console & Khan and Spock with Horta) by Diamond Select (who also did the Stargate figures and are general good quality and detail) and the next minute I had started my Star Trek collection. Had to take them out of the package as otherwise they never would have fit into the suitcase.

The aliens are from some Chupa Cups lollypops.

The figures that come in these sets are different, as they don't have as many joints. They have fully changeable legs

On the top of the legs it even states the names Kirk and Spock, but they are interchangeable.

And in Spock's case even a changeable head to do the "Pain" scene properly. I'll show the Horta another time. But that's how I was able to do that kneeling Spock in the bow and arrow picture. With a figure with ordinary knee joints you'd never get that nice pose so I really love this new approach.

And Kirk can either have the thing he beat Khan with:

Or change hands and legs and even do his high kick:

Looks like I'm going to have to save up for that Kirk/Khan/Engineering Console set. I have all the TOS Diamond Select Enterprise crew figures as well as Khan and the Gorn. I still need Kor but I've been wanting to make a bridge set for my comic strips. That console will help me get closer to that. :)

Well, good luck with doing the bridge! That will be a lot of work, and since I try to stick to detail and can't do things halfway, I rather just not start at all. This is the only thing I regret about not having the Playmates figures - they have a bridge.

I am also tempted about their shuttlecraft...

This is what you are looking for: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Sel...8&qid=1445290759&sr=8-19&keywords=Kirk+figure

Also, the console background can be switched to create a different layout:

As promised, here's my little Horta story with a little twist at the end ;) I'm just having fun.
As for the "eggs", this is something I bought weeks ago just because I liked it but had no idea what to use it for. When I collected things for this scene, I stumbled about it and it was perfect.

(Spock with changed face)

I never even knew about the Playmates Trek toys until recently. I just got into Star Trek in my late teens. I'm 24 now, but I'm still a kid at heart. I saw the Playmates bridge but it's 2 story look throws me off. I have the Playmates Shuttle as well. It's nice but limited as it can only hold 2 figures. I may attempt to make a DST scale shuttle first. I don't think anyone has attempted one before. I love that console too. That set is now on my watch list. I'm not so much a stickler for detail but I will do my best to make my bridge nice when I eventually get to build it.

Nice pictures too. I'll get that Horta set next too. :)

Turn those two numbers the other way around and you have my age ;)
As someone recently said as birthday greeting: I am now the answer to all questions in the universe.

And I only got into TOS a few months ago. As for the reason why I was so late (not entirely my fault) and how it all happened may I refer to my introduction post here: http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?p=11314095&postcount=1256

Isn't it nice thought that this old series still can gain new fans?

I got into TOS after hearing the theme song as the show was ending funny enough. I thought it was so catchy that I had to hear it again. So I watched a few episodes and was instantly hooked. And I read your opening post a very wonderful read. I'm glad you've found the TrekBBS. You'll be quite at home here. :)

I picked up Dark Archer and Deathstroke from the Reaction line at B&N today.

CCC.
Oh! An Arrow fan! Reaction that is those smaller guys right? I'm not sure I want to start with those as well.

I made a scimitar for mine, here he is sharpening it. I'll re-shoot that scene when next March we get another Dark Archer figure but with the hood down so we can see John Barrowman's face.

I think I like the Deadshot figure even more than the Deathstroke figure. Such great details.

I also made a rusty salmon ladder for Oliver Queen:

To me action figures are like statues, but instead of getting million dollar marble, gold, bronze or such life size statues, I get smaller plastic ones. They are more affordable and take up less space so I can have more of them, and come in characters I like, plus the smaller ones are easier to custom into the ones I want but nobody is smart enough to make. Try doing that in marble!

That is an approach I like! So many people buy figures just as an investment, and leave them sitting in their package on the shelf and never take them out. It takes up huge space with all the empty air, and where is the fun?

I am not through with all the 400+ pages in here - have you posted your customizations? I love to see such stuff, especially with a before-after picture.

In a way, that Oliver Queen is customized as well, as the original figure also comes with his quiver on a strap over his chest, and a side arm holster, which I cut away. You can see how I had to fill the gap at the hip.

Someone once was very angry at me that I dared to cut Captain Jack Harkness' iconic coat away. I needed to do so to put another jacket onto him and make him John Barrowman in glittery concert suit.

The jacket originally belonged to the first Doctor:

I changed it with some Milliput - best stuff out there for such task:

And voilá:

I have put some of them up here. Most are over at AFI. Right now my collection is boxed due to space limitations, but I am trying to reclaim my display space from my wife.

CCC.

Ever wondered what happened to the Gorn after Arena? Well it looks like he found love in a galaxy far far away... A prequel to my Gorn family picture from last year, this time I found a Momma Bossk to go with my Daddy Gorn. Yay for Star Wars Black!
