Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

So, the final poster has arrived. Anyone else see it and think, "Oh, !@#$, not another Death Star?"

After all the promo material, this is the first one in which I rolled my eyes a little bit.

Oh, well. A lot of EU stories involved planet destroying weapons, so if this is another Death Star, it isn't with precedent.

It may be a weapon, but I'm not sure its a "Death Star".

If it is? I can't think of a better way for Solo and Leia to bow out of the franchise.

It's not a space station... But it ain't no moon either.

An ice planet converted into a stronghold of the First Order and armed with a fiercely destructive new weapon capable of destroying entire star systems.

I must say I'm not happy with the fact that they're basically recycling Hoth, and Tattooine (Jakku).

But then again, Lucas has done pretty much every possible planet-wide ecosystem imaginable (desert planet, ice planet, rain-forest planet, lava planet, ocean planet, Mars 2.0, asteroid belts, sinkholes...), so they were bound to recycle something.

Well there are still lots of variations of ice planets and desert planets they can show us. And even in the SW universe there's obviously going to be a lot of those similar kinds of worlds out there.

I'm not surprised that the character fans most want to see again is the one they've barely showed us at all. And since the biggest mystery of the movie is whatever happened to Luke and why he went missing, it makes sense not to give any of that away in the trailers.

Or this isn't as big a weapon as some think it might be. As for the first audio dialogue from the film, BB-8's beeping and chirping when he rolled across the sand in the very first teaser probably counts, but this is the first character sound in a scene with a human actor!
That's right, I forgot that we did hear BB-8 beeping during the first teaser.

I had a thought, what if the weapon is the planet? Maybe they've found a way to turn a whole planet into a giant gun. It would be a fun little twist on the whole that's no moon conversation in ANH.

Do we know if the trailer will be online after it airs during Monday Night Football? I don't watch football, so I was wondering if I can't catch half-time, if I'll have to wait until the morning or later in the week.

Where's the trailer?!?!?!? :D :D :D I need to go to sleep in about an hour or two (I'm from the Netherlands) and I wanna see this before I go to sleep.

8:00EST. You have six hours. I'd go to bed now and get up early if I were you. Then you can watch it again and again and again! :D

Actually, it'll be even later than that. I hadn't realized they confirmed it would be at halftime, so more like 9:30EST.

Highly disappointed that both the midnight screenings and the first full day release at my local cinema are 3D only. Firstly, it adds 20% to the cost and, secondly, I loathe the format. So I will have to stick my head in the sand for a day and a half to ensure I go in as blind as possible.

Hugo - grumble grumble grumble
