First NLCS game at Wrigley, the Cubs should try to reach out to Steve Bartman and get him to throw out the first pitch. It's only fair.

The Cubs have reached out to Bartman several times over the past few years. He has rejected their overtures and really just wants to be left alone.

The fact is, he became the poster boy for the 2003 Cubs team that quit. "Oh noes, it's the curse. Time to give up".

This years team doesn't have any quit in them.

Yeah, leave Bartman alone and focus on the ultimate prize.

Royals take game one of the ALCS in which the Blue Jays fell back on old habits, complaining to the umps about the strike zone, while they were clearly overmatched by a pitcher having a career game.

The high point of the game for me was when the fans starting chanting "USA!! USA!!" to their Columbian pitcher, who was pitching to their Venezuelan back catcher, while an American Jays batter was at the plate.

I was quite surprised by that as well. He pitched well, bend don't break stuff tonight. Harvey was just on it, I was also surprised when he pitched the 8th. Nice win for the Mets.

Exactly how game 1 against the Cards went. Lackey was on fire that night, and Lester gave up 4 before he was taken out.

Now, the Cubs never scored another run in that game, so you might think it didn't matter, but take Lester out when the Cards had 2 or 3 runs and maybe they come back.

Hammel would've been pulled after 1 or 2 runs for sure, but he does have a tendency to fall apart more compared to Lester.

Well, Arrieta goes tomorrow, I think the Cubs can pull off the same plan with an away win.

Hendricks is starting over Hammel in Game 3, which just goes to show you how bad and unreliable the latter got in the second half.

Edit: Actually, I'd be surprised to see Hammel see any action this series outside of bullpen work. The Cubs have the option of starting Lester and Arrieta on short rest later this week, and Travis Wood lingers as an emergency start option. I just have a hard time trusting Hammel to go more than three innings at this point, given how easily he falls apart once rocked.

Murphy would be a great acquisition for the Yankees. He has the Yankee "look", hits for average and with that short porch, could hit 20 HR.

He's pitched far more innings this year than he ever has, and it's effectively by an order of magnitude. It's either fatigue or (God forbid) arm problems.
