It's a tradition that Star Trek movies and series get a short acronym for convenience in online discussion. The last two included "ST" for Star Trek, but arguably this was only really necessary for ST09. Given the ST is redundant (we know it's Star Trek), wouldn't BEY be a better acronym for the new movie?

I've used STB myself, but have noticed that hardly anyone else uses it, hence this thread to get the issue out in the open.

My first thought was that STB was the obvious choice, but after thinking about it I think BEY is better because it's more unique, can be pronounced as a word (like TOS, TAS, TWOK, TUC, GEN, INS, NEM, VOY, ENT), and can't be mistaken for some sort of genital complaint.

As in "JJ has screwed over Star Trek so bad, I think I actually caught an STB." :D

I hate complaining genitals. they should just shut up and do their job.

anyway, STB. It is already established and used and makes sense. And no, the ST part is not redundant, since the 'Trek' part of the title is not used as 'the Trek' but as 'to trek', just like in STID

And that's somehow worse than STID, the combination of both actual acronyms for Sexually Transmitted Infection and Disease?

Did they do any filming in San Francisco...BEY?

srsly, we've already been using STB here for awhile, haven't we? It just makes the most sense. It's always been some form of ST: ST09, STID, STB.
