Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Haha! Exactly. They look like Ghostbusters. And we have no idea what is going to be added digitally to this scene. A huge city skyline, a Starfleet outpost somewhere else? Looks like old wreckage but they may add some digital touches to it. Or maybe more than touches. They could extend the curved bit and add the rest of the ship.

that's definitely a starfleet outpost and a ship crashes there
I even wonder if some of those red shirts are actually cadet uniforms. I might be wrong but I don't see them wearing the black undershirt/collar we saw in Spock and Scotty's new uniform (eta: never mind, looking better at some of the new pictures I can kind of see black collars on those people too) I also see a lot of people holding pads and yes, there are some alien guys too I didn't notice at first.

I kind of assumed they'd use Dubai to film a new alien city never explored before but it seems I was wrong.

edit to add:
apparently some people over twitter are saying they saw John Cho in Dubai too. So that makes the whole cast there minus Zoe Saldana. I'll refrain from commenting that further..

The sign with the Starfleet logo definitely says "Starfleet" and probably "United Federation of Planets." The other logo is still hard to make out. The symbol looks roughly like the UFP symbol, but not quite.

The one on the left definitely says "Starfleet -- United Federation of Planets" (similar to the patch on the uniform). The one on the right doesn't seem to match the Federation emblem at all. There are what appear to be three words at the top (the middle one being a single letter), or two words separated by a symbol. Perhaps something in another language representing the local alien government / culture?

Or maybe it's the logo for Starbase 11. Perhaps, we're seeing the movie version of the starbase often visited by the Enterprise in TOS.

Vulcans in Starbase 11?

The one on the right is most likely a logo belonging to one of starfleet service branches. The logo could be a logo for starfleet marines? It's either that or a starfleet command logo.

What?

Nobody wants to talk about the variety of Starfleet uniforms. There are certainly a lot of interesting wardrobe variants in those shots, and I'm looking forward to seeing more Starfleet personnel in action.

I am somewhat disappointed by these pictures. There's Starfleet in them. I don't want Starfleet to be in them. It may still be deep space, but so much for strange and new.

Certainly not what I expected. On the upside, I am back to not knowing what the heck the film is going to be about. That's good. :)

There are crashed ships everywhere – crashed ships in the forest, crashed ships in front of a Starfleet output. There are crashed ships and non-Starfleet Vulcans. That's just weird. And weird's all you need. ;)

If it's any comfort, I believe this particular part of the film is only being filmed for a couple of days which means it may only be a couple of minutes worth of stuff, if that.

I would imagine so. With such a large crowd of extras I can't imagine these scenes taking up too much of the film. Either the beginning or the end, I would guess.

More pictures and video posted on Trekcore, today:

http://trekcore.com/blog/2015/10/du...-with-a-look-at-the-both-new-uniform-designs/

Interesting note in the first video piece. At 1:38 in the video, as people are just hanging out, there's an extra sitting on one of those cylinders that were placed around the set. At 1:58 there's a close up of that woman sitting there. There is writing on the cylinder. All I can make out is it says, "Keep Clear [unintelligible] Vent." To me, the unintelligible part may say "Turoblift," but that makes no sense to me. It's just a small detail on the prop, but kind of neat.

Edited to add: At 50 seconds in there is a much more clear picture of one of the cylinder props that were placed in the area. What's written on them is "Keep Clear, Exhaust Vent." Again, a minute detail, but nice to know.

what happened with Chris Pine?

Looks like he got in a fight with an Orion disguised as an Andorian, causing his shirt to rip open at the top button and expose his chest.

I'm tellin' ya, he's looking more and more like Kirk all the time.

Yeah, but one has to wonder: why go all the way to Dubai to get a "futuristic plaza" look for a time-limited scene? Certainly Vancouver + CG would have done the trick, and been cheaper.

There must be a good reason they chose that venue, and it should feature prominently.

I'm sure it will feature prominently. I'm just thinking towards either the beginning or the end-the crisis or the resolution.

Maybe a great race between Elba and the Enterprise to see who can show off how fast and furious they are at the film's events. No race would be complete with an epic crash.
