Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

So . . . whether time travel or via flashback, we have a starship left in situ after it crashed.

The only reason it would still be left where it is whilst a whole city has grown up around it is . . . the crashed starship become a point of worship?

Are we looking at a Prime Directive violation story?

Only this time, Cpt Kirk has to fix things whereas in STiD, he committed the breach.

That is the main idea. Elba was a captain of Federation decades ago. Kirk found out Elba to have violated the Prime Directive.
Sofia and her people want to overthrow dictator.
Elba could be a villian like Caridian in "The Conscience of the King".
Dubai is a great city at the cost of Sofia people´s.
It is just a thought, of course.

that speculation doesn't sound too far fetched to me ;)

"The Conscience of the King" is a good story.

He wouldn´t be exactly a villian (for his followers), but a man that wants to hide an extremely obscure past.
He is loved and adored by people of Dubai (a segment of the population) who approved of his just and wise decisions. But there somenthing like: "The dark side of Dubai".
A city built from nothing in just a few decades on suppression and slavery.

"No matter how noble the goals may be, however, the ends cannot justify the means".
I think that it would be a good thing to bring to the table.
It is a very current topic.

Not necessarily time travel. The Vancouver ship is for a flashback or historical record.

If the Vancouver ship is a flashback, why are Kirk and Scotty there? It must be something current, otherwise they wouldn't have filmed scenes with the actors.

Yes. I was also thinking about it. It was an excellent idea, but Pine, Boutella and Pegg were there.

In my opinion, there are two ships: Elba's ship or another Federation ship (Elba is not starfleet captain) and Enterprise.

My first idea was that Vancouver ship is the solution of this mystery.
I don´t know how this disc fits in Dubai. It could be Enterprise being repared. But I don't believe that.
I see no further reason why two ships, besides Enterprise.

The ship that crashed in Vancouver is not the Enterprise because Pine and Yelchin are wearing something suitable for exploration and they do not seem concerned about it. I do not know why Pegg is using the standard uniform.

I have seen no pics of the cast with the Vancouver ship. That footage of Pine and Sofia emerging from the hatch looks to have been done somewhere else (the set's perfectly level, for one thing).

So, two ships, smaller than a TOS Connie and closer to the size of the NX crash on two different planets, without exploding, one in a forest and one in a city.

Shoddy navigating going on these days.

Just because this set doesn't conform to the size of the actual ship doesn't mean it can't be that ship. Since only a tiny portion of the disk has been constructed, I'm guessing that there's some forced perspective going on to make it look bigger than it actually is.

Why build a full-scale model if you can fake it in camera and/or post production. This has been done numerous times in other ST films. For example, in ST09 the scene of Kirk running toward Spock's ice cave (escaping the giant alien) is a kid and a 1/2 scale set. Same goes for the Klingon guards in Rura Penthe scenes that were cut.

No, it was done in Vancouver. Check out this photo here (as well as the others):

For a location that isn't supposed to be a forest, they seem to have gone through a lot of trouble to put mangled trees in the picture.

First of all, it has been said that Pine, Boutella and Pegg were filming in Kent Hangar and in this place there was a set with a crashed-starship.

My guess.
We will see a saucer separation. Enterprise is severely damaged. The saucer was separated.
Enterprise´s saucer is piloted into the atmosphere and crashed to the surface.
These patches could be the saucer burning up in atmosphere

That doesn't look like the edge of the current Enterprise saucer. That looks like it has been there a while.

Yup, and we already had a size comparison earlier in the thread showing this thing is far smaller than the Enterprise, *far* smaller.

While the saucer edge looks distressed, the debris around it is not so it may not have been there for very long. Atmospheric entry and simple age could account for the weathering on that set piece (ship).

I agree that this ship could be smaller than the Enterprise, but looking the debris around I do not think that this ship crashed for a very long time.

I'm telling you, that's a Constitution class saucer - TV series version, not movies.

Those two openings notwithstanding (which seem to be airlocks that seamlessly flush with the hull when closed ;)), that was my thought as well.

The nuEnterprise's dedication plaque in Star Trek '09 confirmed the new ship's class as Constitution, but I wonder if there might be a little bit of retconning going on here...

That would be fucking fantastic if we finally saw a TOS Connie on the big screen.
