What are people's thoughts on things like game trainers, hacking a game or modding it to make it play how you want?

Good, bad, indifferent?

Thing is on my home forum which is supposed to be a tech forum they strongly disapprove of anything to do with any of the above mentioned items. I find that strange since they have a huge gaming section.. I don't know why it would be an issue unless they are involved with gaming companies which frown on this stuff most of the time..

Plus no one actually makes a game I can really like..

Liked:
Tomb Raider (all of them)
Tomb Raider 2013 reboot
Bioshock Infinite (though choice is a lie and it is very linear)
Snuggle Truck
Watch Dogs (or is that "snoring dogs")
Bloodrayne 2

Loved:
Hitman Absolution
Hitman Blood Money
SWTOR
Star Trek Online
Skyforge
Dead Island
Left 4 Dead
Myst
In the 1st Degree
Grand Theft Auto 4
Saints Row 2 and 3

I do not care as long as I'm not playing multiplayer games in a competitive setting.

As long as it's single player only, I don't mind trainers/hacking.

I've used them myself several times (at least after the first successfuly play through) as sometimes it can have entertaining side effects.

As for mods, some of them are great fun though I haven't seen as many "total conversions" as I used to. I admit I haven't been looking though.

I don't typically play multi-player much.

Yeah, single-player, fine, as long as you know what you're doing. Sometimes games even require it to get around some bugs. But, you're basically modifying your game and voiding an agreement, hence why many sites are so guarded around the issue as they don't want to be legally implicated. There's also the issue that many hacks or trainers are sourced by the hackers who break the copy protection or reverse-engineer the game, carrying a certain implication, therefore sites wanting to avoid talk of it altogether.

Online is of course another issue altogether. I remember hearing when GTAV came out on PC, there was a mod/hack for a car, that also affected the online portion, so they had to take a firm stance and disallow it.

I know the GTA V mod it gave some people an advantage.

I would only fiddle with single player games and alter those. After a full run the normal way, or if I get seriously stuck in a portion of the game.

But yeah no one makes a game I can truly call "my game" that I would love to death.

I want a big open world game like say set in NY or London or Paris where there's nothing but open world exploration and finding clues to find stuff. No killing and shooting, but just lots of open world adventuring ... To me that would be much more fun then what we get now..

I agree. As long as it doesn't involve messing with online multiplayer (which I very rarely play anymore(, I'm fine with mods/total conversions. I used to like Game Sharks and the like but only after I repeatedly crushed a game without it. :)

I used to own a Sega Master System and it lived right up until about 2 years ago. Loved the games. We had a cartridge that you put in and then stacked the game cartridge on top of that and it would help you to find cheats for almost any game. By dying several times it would find the code for say health and stuff. You wrote those down in a book and kept them and when you next played the game you had various cheats at your disposal by entering those codes..

I'm fine with cheats, hacks, and mods, as long as it's not multiplayer. If you're doing a single player campaign, I figure do whatever you like. I used to play GTA Vice City with a pile of cheats (after finishing the game normally), and it was way more fun, and far more destructive.
