Alien Instruments. Anyone got ideas?

Esirprus

I think once I'm actually working towards production I'll post some MS paint pictures of my characters.

However until then. Does anyone have ideas for alien instruments to arm the background orchestra with?

I've always felt aliens deserve distinct music just as England, Ireland, Scottland, France, China, Mexico and Native America have already.

So feel free to share your ideas. You just might hear them on the next Trek.

Star Wars cantina music included steel drums. I think that's the only piece with steel drums in the movie.

I recently heard some musical instruments from Africa and India. Unique sounds that I've not really heard elsewhere. Definitely not overused

There is the didjeridu that has that unique Australian outback sound.

Thanks. I may very well incororate variations of these but I make my life extremely difficult by insisting it has to exist identically nowhere on Earth. For instance I made sketched a variation of the timpani combining it with the guitar and flat-drum. As well as plan to miniaturize the bagpipes and have a metalic woodwind section. To give you all an idea of how hard I make my life.

Even if it's just description of a theoretical instrument or idea of underused instrument it would be appreciated. Budget is unknown at present so I may be forced to go with existing instruments.

Thanks for the interest.

The closest thing I've come across for alien music is the "Krell" music from Forbidden Planet when Morbius plays the recording in his study for the "crew" of the C57D. I hope that helps...

Esirprus, type 3d string piezoelectric violin into Google. Its a real working
violin but it looks like it was designed by alin creator hr giger. Very cool.

Are you looking for alien sounding music or alien looking instruments for some visual medium?

Water glasses make a unique sound.

Both. I'm looking for alien sounding instruments that can be depicted in an alien orchestra even if need be. I know, overkill, but that's how I am. Way too perfectionistic.:vulcan:

Just remember that the sound need not actually come from the instrument on screen. The juxtaposition of screen image vs. the sound heard may heighten the alien feel,
