Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Karen Traviss is a fine writer, but she was a terrible fit for Star Wars. I noticed she's written some Halo books since leaving Star Wars behind her. That's more her style, I think.

She was fine in the RC niche. I would have loved to see that series continue.

She had disdain for the Jedi it seems. Given how some others made them too powerful I saw it as a counterbalance. She perhaps went too far.

I wish she'd done the military Essential Guide. I'd have bought it.

I agree. A lot of people don't seem to like her attitude with the jedi, but honestly, I thought it was refreshing. I mean, I love jedi, but come on. They're not perfect, and by the Clone wars era they were mostly emotionless monks detached from the people they were supposed to be the "guardians" of. I thought Traviss brought a good perspective, and it fit her characters very well. She also made me care about the clones (not just hers, but the whole group in general) which is certainly something Lucas didn't accomplish (or even care about). She was far from perfect I suppose, but I'll always love her RC books.

As I recall, certain characters (one in particular comes to mind) do not come off well in her Halo series (and that seems to have annoyed certain elements of the fandom).

I actually enjoyed her RC series, but I thought her Gears series was ok too.

I finally found BB8 at my Target today!!! I got the Funko figures of BB8, Rey, Poe, and First Order Stormtrooper. To get my $10 off coupon I also bought the Lost Stars novel so I really hope it doesn't suck I always get my books for free from the library!

We finally got in some of the Black Series TFA figures the day before yesterday at my work. When I first saw them we had 2 Kylo Rens, Finn, Rey & BB8 (he comes with her in a two pack), a FO Stormtrooper, and Chewie. By the end of the day we were down to just 1 Kylo Ren, Finn, and Chewie. Rey popped back up yesterday, so either she was returned or someone found another one somewhere. I almost got one of them, but I decided it wasn't worth spending almost $20 bucks on something that's just going to sit on my shelf.
Yesterday on my way out I saw we also got some of the Funco Pop Figures. I saw some FO stormtroopers, Rey, Finn, Poe and I think possibly C-3PO (is it 0 the number or O the letter?).

Fifty pages into Lost Stars and it's okay so far. Apparently it's a "young adult" novel and it stars a teenage boy and girl as they entire the Imperial Academy.

Probably becuase it involves a good deal of retconting of the older novels which a recent comic series then came around and unretconted.

I saw the Hasbro motorized BB-8 at my local Target the other day but didn't have enough on me to get him. My local stores are largely sold out of 3.75" and 6" figures at the moment but they still have plenty of the more specialized merchandise like the BB-8 toy and the new Titanium Series die-cast ships and vehicles.

Target also has a big, life-size display of BB-8 on an endcap that beeps, flashes lights and rotates its dome whenever a shopper activates the display sensor. It's a pretty cool thing to see.

Yeah, I saw one of those BB-8 displays when I stopped by my local Target on Force Friday, although when my mom and I walked by him he didn't react.
Today is my birthday, so I decided to get myself something fun and got the Funko Pop Rey and Finn we had at work. I might get some others later.

Hey, if you like the Funko Pop! figures and want more from the new movie you should check out your local GameStop if you have one in the area. GameStop is selling an exclusive Finn in Stormtrooper Armor figure.
