Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 1964

In case you missed it, there's a new blog post at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum website. The post itself is another request for original photos of the Enterprise from 1964 to 1975. What's new in the blog is (to my knowledge) a never-before-seen photo of the Enterprise in 1964 in front of the model shop. No people standing behind the Enterprise, and the dish isn't installed. Pretty cool; it'll be interesting to see if more photos from this time-frame show up.

Pretty sure that photo from 1964 has been posted here before.

^ First I've seen it anywhere.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I could've sworn I've seen it here.

Oh, well. I'm getting old, maybe my memory is playing tricks on me.

Cool thanks :)

Re: Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 19

So now we know the restoration goal: To restore it to its appearance following its final modification during production, as of August 1967. So it would incorporate the history of all changes made during production, while minimizing the effect of changes made after production. Seems a reasonable choice. Presumably the whole exhibit will include images and text about earlier and later changes.

So "The Trouble With Tribbles" was the last time the miniature was modified? That's surprising. Were there any new model shots of the 11-footer filmed for season 3? I have the impression that there were, but I'm not sure.

Re: Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 19

The pic hasn't been seen before, it's quite similar to the 'roll out photo' which could be easily confused.

Don't think they had the budget to modify the model for S3 at all.

Yes and no. The version you're thinking of had the model builders in it.

Unless I missed an older thread.

Re: Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 19

Seeing it sit in the open like that, I keep wondering how history might have changed if some darn fool swerved into the seemingly open parking spot, not seeing the miniature until it was too late, thoroughly smashing it. (Those older cars were made with thicker, heavier steel.) Would insurance have covered the cost of rebuilding it? Would they have had the time? Would they have resorted to using the 3 foot model for the series?

Sincerely,

Bill

That is a great photo of the big "E", I have never seen that before, thanks for that.

If we ever develop time travel, I'll have to go back and experiment!

First time I've ever seen that particular photo.

Re: Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 19

I sent them the pictures I took in 1977, just for the sake of doing so. They won't reveal anything not already known.

Re: Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 19

CNN just put up an article about this, and... well, just scroll down and look at the picture of the Enterprise they included. Quick, before they edit it. Link

It's like they just Googled "star trek Enterprise model" and pasted in whatever came up.

^^ Appropriate pic.

Idiots.

Re: Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 19

Just a mistake by someone that obviously isn't a fan. Not everyone hangs on the details of a fifty year old TV show like we do.

Re: Enterprise Restoration Blog Update 9/2015 - With New Photo from 19

CNN staffers aren't that stupid. This is a very big, very obvious feature of the show. Showing the Enterprise-D had to be a deliberate gesture of contempt for TOS fans. "Let's stick our thumb in their eye and see if they have a hissy fit-- over something as trivial as Star Trek! Ha ha ha!"

I really doubt anyone cares that much.

That's one guy that we can be thankful the Smithsonian didn't tap as a consultant for the restoration.
