Your Favorite Decade

What was/is your favorite decade?

What did you love about it?

Why is it so special to you?

Have any fun memories to share?

Note: You do not have to have actually lived in the decade to think of it as your "favorite" but that would help. :)

I loved the 1790's! :p

I actually miss the time when I was a kid in the late 80's. I guess the 90's it was a simpler time and I had more money when I was 16-21 than I do now. :sigh: My favorite memory was seeing Bush, No Doubt & The Goo Goo Dolls with a female friend. :)

My favorite decade was the 90's - I was in my late teens/early twenties, I had a good job, a car, no attachments, lots of friends, plenty of energy, it was great!

I miss those days.

I loved the music, but not the fashion, the Internet was taking off and I discovered the joys of the bigger Internet community, lots of Trek on TV, good times.

Late 1980s to early 1990s! I had money, a little fame, got laid a LOT, had more energy and stamina... what wasn't to love about it?! :techman::devil::bolian:

The 1980's. I graduated High School in 1986, and College in 1990, so my most formative years were in the 80's. Still love 80's music!

^I graduated from college in '91. I'd say mid '80s to early 90s were my favorite time. I loved the music, the fashion, and I was young enough to not have all my hopes crushed.

The 90's. A much simpler time. My childhood. When Disney was at it's best (Renaissance Era), and the only thing I had to do was go to school. Good times:)

Though now that I'm older I look back on the 90's and think about all the great things I missed out on: Xena, Buffy, Voyager, the movies, the music... It must have been a fun time to be a teenager.

The 60s were all about the New Left which I loathe, the 70s were all about hippies becoming decadent, the 80s feature horrible fashion and are interesting as, unlike later decades, they were at least self-conscious about the reactionary revolutions (movies like "They Live" are pradigmatic of this 'trashy but intelligent' 80s thingy) ... and ever since then things have become worse. The 90s were yuppie-shit, the 00s were nasty but at least the "end of history" dream stopped and the 10s so far seem to be about a path to nowhere.
So I gotta pick the 1920s. Wasn't around back then but it was a culturally vibrant decade (I do especially appreciate the cinema from the 20s), playful and liberal, a bright light that shone until things went sour.

1990s

Great cartoons and animated series.

Good movies

Good TV Shows

Cool action figures

Star Trek Deep Space Nine :cardie:

The 1990s. The past 15 years since then has been a shitfest.

Hmm. There's a couple of ways I could answer this.

The 60s were an incredibly vibrant time. The cultural revolution was in full swing and that was evident in just about every aspect of popular culture. Civil Rights, Women's Lib, and the Sexual Revolution informed just about everything. Add that to things like the Apollo Program and it seemed like the world was on the verge of bursting into the future. Never before or since has there been a decade like that.

On a more personal level, there was the 70s, when I was a teenager. Good times. Culture was still vibrant, the music and comics and TV shows were diverse and creative (until the last couple of years of the decade, anyway), and, best of all, I started going out with girls. :rommie: Also, I started to hit my stride on a creative level and learned the more technical aspects of writing.

On the other hand, the early 80s were pretty good. There was a bit of a rebound from the pop culture collapse of 1978. Punk and New Wave brought new life to music for a while, the direct market brought new life to comics for a while, and there was a lot of interesting stuff going on in movies and genre literature. And I was out of high school, traveling around a lot, and having more sex than before or since. Unfortunately, that all petered out by the mid 80s, so I guess it only counts as a half decade.

The 90's. ... When Disney was at it's best.
:wtf:

Okay. I will admit I liked Toy Story 2 (saw it on December 30, 1999). But Disney was at its best before all those ridiculous remakes of movies that didn't need to be remade.

I'm going to answer 1975 - 1985. 1975 was the year I got into Star Trek and my life took an abrupt turn off the path it probably would have taken. This decade was most of junior high, all of senior high, and college. It was the decade when I started working in theatre and going to science fiction conventions (meeting authors, not actors).

Definitely the 90's.

I was in high school, it was a simpler time. The movies were better. There was still good music coming out. Nobody had their faces buried in their goddamn smartphones 24/7. It was the beginning of political correctness, but nowhere near the hyper PC-ness that is occurring nowadays.

Granted, I could just be looking back with rose colored glasses, and it makes me feel like an old man thinking in such ways, but movies and music WERE much better back then.

Oh, and by the way... GET OFF MY LAWN!!! :)

I find it interesting that so many of us equate the "best decade" with the decade when were in our late teens/ early twenties.
