Brands that were once popular....

There are still several hundred Howard Johnson hotels in operation, but they're owned and operated by the Wyndham group now. They usually get positioned as midscale properties in mid-major markets -- like, say, in Wisconsin, you won't see one in Milwaukee, but you will in Madison or Appleton.

Makes me wonder if the one is Maine is still operating, but somehow I doubt it. The hotels are run by a different entity which is why they still exist.

Just googled that one. It seems to be still there. The street view is from last August. Noontime judging by the shadows and the parking lots are mostly empty. The gas station across the street appears busy. I suppose it's due to being between check out and check in times.

The only A&W we have in town is in the Mall food court. We used to have a standalone restaurant, but it went out of business a few years ago.

I was wondering if Shake and Bake was still being made, then I saw some at the store yesterday.

May have been mentioned before, but I miss "Ben Franklin" it was a "five and dime" in the Chicago Market. Maybe elsewhere, too? Creaky wood floors and a great "old" smell. They had all kinds of cool stuff.

When I was in High School there was a five and dime called T, G & Y across from the school. A common joke was the name stood for "To Gyp You".

We have a Ben Franklin in Redmond, WA!

We also had a Ben Franklin here when I was a child, in a little shopping center when this was a small town. It also seemed rather old and rickety, and full of wonderful stuff, small things that a kid could afford.

Much later we had a Ben Franklin craft store, but that was an entirely different entity. Also now gone.
