Enterprise-F (Fuzzyprise) Saucer Separation

Fuzzy Modem

People often ask me if the saucer can separate on my Enterprise F design. I finally whipped up a render to demonstrate.

Fuzzy, I'm not trying to say you're wrong, but I think the locks for joining the saucer with the star drive look too big. Two rows of smaller locks might look better to someone with eyes like mine.

At the same time, I love the nacelles on this starship. They're so simple and elegant. A lot of people like to over-do warp nacelles with lots of fancy swooping insets and patterns ... but you have a nice handle on less is more.

Neat! So the primary bridge remains just that - where is the saucer controlled? An aux control sort of setup as we've seen in TOS?

Mark

It looks as if the saucer needs to move upwards (if there is such a thing in space ;)) instead of forwards to move away from the stardrive. The horse-shoe like shap of the saucer-section would otherwise leave it stuck, right?

Exactly correct.

Awesome. Did you ever work up a proper bridge layout for this girl?

The locks are several stories high, and should probably be slightly smaller and more detailed. I always thought the locks on the D looked too small and fragile though.

One of my favorite ship designs. :D

As for the saucer sep, I guess this one always comes back.. biiiiig boomerang..

Please forgive the silly question, but have you done s size comparo of previous starships named Enterprise alongside this one? I was just wondering if the horseshoe section is large enough to house both a crew and its own shuttlebays.

It's a neat idea, although I can't resist wondering what it would be like if there were a thin connection of upper decks on the aft end of the "horseshoe", closing the loop to make into a donut. That's just me.

Yeah. She's 755 meters, so the longest to date, but a bit shorter than her predecessors with only 21 decks. Much of her length is from the nacelles. Her saucer and stardrive are only Enterprise-C size.

I've always liked this design. I'd like to see someone do a mesh of her to the level of detail of the Sovereign or Odyssey classes.

Yeah, there is a second bridge in the saucer, crewed by third shift personnel.

If those deck heights are correct, those are some of the most cramped shuttlebays vertically I've ever seen.

Yeah. Lots of horizontal wiggle room. Not much vertical, especially in the saucer, where takeoff and landing is done through an angled ramp.
