Brands that were once popular....

Anybody remember "County Seat". When I was in high school, it was one of the only places that sold Levi's "Elephant Bells". Those bell-Bottoms were already so big and floppy,Manchester then we would have our girlfriends rip out the bell seems and sew psychedelic fabric in, to span the rip and make them even more big and floppy. Ha!, we really thought we were the Total Shit! Man, those early '70's!

Oh, I definitely remember County Seat. It was THE place to get high-waisted, acid-washed, tapered jeans. It was the perfect fit to make the female form look as unattractive as possible.

I can't believe I ever wore those.

TV dinners. Yes, they were cheap and the carrots had no taste, but they were a staple for us. Mom worked second shift, I was in charge of dinner, diapers, cleaning, etc. For me, TV dinners were a godsend!

I remember how Dad used to have us eat those old frozen pizzas when Mom was out of town, the ones that were rectangular and tasted very....what I'd call now "processed" with a cardboard of a crust.

Tony's Pizzas weren't any better. But, it was all we had. Our idea of a treat was Friday Nights! Mom would bring home burgers and fries one week. On the other Friday, a store-bought pizza or popcorn and a quart bottle of root beer. We played family games like 500 Rummy [cards], Yahtzee or Monopoly. When we started dating, it could only be on Saturday... Friday Night was Family Night.

Those are the times I remember best... family times. We didn't have money, being poor farmers and Mom managing a fast food restaurant, but we had each other.

There were one or two County Seats around here.

Is The Gap still around?

My favorite pizza to get when I'm hormonal or just in need of something is what my mother used to call "crappy pizza." I like the Totino's you can get for a little over a buck. The crust is thin and the sauce is decent. Tony's uses too much paprika.

...when I'm hormonal...
Is making humor from this topic like racial or ethnic humor where you have to be part of that race or of that ethnicity for the humor to be funny instead of offensive? i.e., a woman? Because I thought from recent news events that mentioning anyone being hormonal brings on all kinds of whomping. It would be nice to clarify it so we know how to talk more about this. But hey, guys can be hormonal too, like all the time. Robert A. Heinlein said it best, but I'll let you look it up. I'd be chastised for quoting it here.

All I know is that there are definite times [each month, purely coincidentally] when I stay away from certain family members as much as humanly possible.

Oh yes, I know what you mean.

Drove past a Howard Johnson hotel today. Can't remember when I last saw one.
HJ is really rare these days. I remember stopping to eat there during family trips.

Back in ancient times, our family would load into our 1963 Ford Country Squire station wagon and D-R-I-V-E. This was great on long weekends. We'd stop at a roadside motel for the night when he was too tired to drive.

Watching Pixar's CARS brings back many childhood memories of many brands, scenes and things no longer with us. To this day, the CARS soundtrack remains my #1 favorite album, because of the memories it brings to mind. Many of our road trips were along Route 66. :techman::bolian:

Yeah, there were only two of the restauraunts operating, one in Lake Placid, NY and Bangor, Maine, but I recently drove by the one that used to be in Lake Placid and it's something else now. Makes me wonder if the one is Maine is still operating, but somehow I doubt it. The hotels are run by a different entity which is why they still exist.
