Fantastic Four reboot-- Casting, Rumors, Pix, ect;

Reviews don't mean nearly as much as people want to believe they do. What is going to cause this movie to sink or rise is its Box Office performance.

I also firmly believe that it's ludicrous to act like Constantin and FOX are just going to give the rights back to Marvel if this movie doesn't do well at the BO. What is more likely to happen is that the distribution rights will stay with FOX and they'll turn to their golden boy Bryan Singer to make the sequel since he's proven he knows how to save a franchise.

I haven't seen anyone imply the reviews will effect the box office. The non existing marketing will effect it though.

Everyone is just laughing at the horrible critic reaction. It'll still probably open alright. But if the reviews are any indication, this movie will not have legs. Word of mouth is still the most powerful form of advertising.
 
The budget for the new movie is 122 million, which is 8 million less than FOX spent on Rise of the Silver Surfer 8 years ago, but it still looks like a fair chunk of change and not some shady attempt to create a tax write-off. What the hell did they spend all that money on? It's almost like they were trying to make a good movie.

(I just had an embarrassing gigglefit.)

The Budget for the Roger Corman 1993 Fantastic Four movie, was ONE Million dollars.

I'm thinking that this might become one of the most pirated movies of the year.

Name appeal + no confidence = Mustsee/won'tpay.

If Trank was really on the ball, he'd know that incest sells.

But then maybe since they're only stepbrother and sister, then it's only stepincest.

The embargo ended after Fox released an ad quoting reviews in it. I guess reviewers figured that if Fox could quote reviews in their ads ahead of the embargo then they could release their reviews.

*Which is hilarious considering all the insults thrown at it by everyone involved in the current film.

**So the winner is the film that was never even made to be released.

Or they could do what Sony has done with Spider-Man -- keep the rights, but enter into a co-production deal with Marvel Studios and let them handle the creative side.

I can't imagine what they could do to make anyone actually want to pay to see it, though.
 
Unfortunately Sony basically salted the earth with this movie. The franchise isn't going to have a chance at a comeback for half a decade at a minimum so it is worthless to Marvel for at least a couple more "phases", which is when Fox will probably make another terrible movie to hold on to the rights.

Honestly, I didn't like it as much the second time around. It had novelty going for it, but I'm not sure how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

I saw Chronicle once and was unimpressed. I recall walking out of it thinking "this, this impressed some people?".

Thank being assigned the director gig was the first in a line of things that made me instantly wary of this reboot project.
Then the talk of "grounded" and "gritty".

Seeing some go :eek: over the RT score is a bit humorous to me, the writing was on the wall a long time ago.
 
Wikipedia says that there is a sequel slated for 2017.

That could have and probably has changed, but at some point someone thought it was "a good idea" which means that everyone attached to this project signed up for at least a three picture deal.

The New film has dipped to %9 on Rotten tomatoes.

That honest trailers from a couple pages back said "it's not impossible to do a good fantastic four Movie, it's called the Incredibles and it was perfect!"

The Incredible is scoring a %97 on Rotten Tomatoes.

I don't think a lot of people expected a "fresh" score, but honestly, not even I saw it end up in a single digit territory:

EDIT: another negative review popped out while I was posting this. It's at 8% now.
 
Maybe they just need to stop adapting this particular comic property. It seems to be critical kryptonite. I'm seeing predictions for $46 million for the weekend. While I'm not seeing the movie myself*, I am going to be watching the box office with great interest.




*First, I have no desire to see FF in the theater. Redbox is fine. Second, I live in Nashville and was actually finally planning on going and seeing Fury Road at the theater this weekend where the guy with the hatchet was yesterday... No more.

I just said -- let Marvel handle the creative side. Fox would still produce and profit from the FF films, but they would now be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and benefit from its box-office cachet, and from the seemingly do-no-wrong creative approach of Marvel Studios. Exactly like what's already happening with Spider-Man.
 
Now at 8% - I am trying to think is this the lowest scored of all the modern era super-hero films? (depending on what year we use as the cut-off - If we go back as far as 2005, Electka was 10%).
