Fantastic Four reboot-- Casting, Rumors, Pix, ect;

Well, the studio really do appear to have lost all faith in this movie.

I'm moving from optimism for an X-Men, FF, Deadpool, Gambit shared universe to hoping Marvel get their rights back to as much as possible.

Gambit's in trouble too btw.

Does anyone know how much they spent on this Doom remake?

Maybe they thought, Hmmm the villain in those comic bookey things is named Doom, lets research it by playing Doom.

I knew Fox was done with it as soon as I saw that they were not doing a 3D release. Love it or hate it, movies like FF just can't compete anymore without the extra money 3D support brings in. In this case, Fox saw no reason to invest in converting it to 3D; they think even those dollars would only net a loss.

So, if this bombs, what of the X-Men, FF, Deadpool shared universe ?

There's more X films coming and it looks like it'd take a miracle for Deadpool to stiff. I just can't see them letting go of the only other title they have the rights to...

If this one bombs, it becomes the X-Men/Deadpool universe. No biggie.

...Or maybe just "The X-Men Universe", seeing as Deadpool made his cinematic debut in an X-Men movie. ;)

Fury Road and Jurassic world were both embargoed in the same way I think?
Max was released May 15th in the US, reviews started coming out May 11th.

Jurassic was released June 12th, reviews mostly from June 10th, which is pretty close.

I think the consensus is that this Deadpool is not that Deadpool, despite having an actor and a character name in common. This Deadpool is the rebuttal to that Deadpool.

But yeah, Fox already has a pretty extensive mutant universe going on, with plenty of solo characters and teams it can draw on. Leaving out the Fantastic Four wouldn't cripple their plans. Indeed, I'd kind of prefer it that way, since bringing in a non-mutant superhero team feels like an intrusion into the X-movies' well-established (if mutable) mythology.

If that's true then casting Ryan Reynolds seems bizarre. Though to be fair casting Ryan Reynolds for anything is something I struggle to understand.

It's true and he is cast for the same reason he was cast the first time, his love for the character, if it weren't for him there probably wouldn't be a Deadpool movie in the works right now.

Yeah I know, but considering Colossus is also in Deadpool, I think it's fairly safe for me to just refer to it as an X-offshoot. For now, at least. :)

As I understand it, Reynolds's performance as the wisecracking pre-transformation Wade Wilson is considered by many to be the high point of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so his replacement by a stuntman "Deadpool" with a stitched-up mouth was seen as a wasted opportunity. (He's generally been better regarded in his comedy roles than his serious ones.) Many fans wished they'd been able to see Reynolds as a proper "Merc With a Mouth." And, rather astonishingly, that wishful thinking has now become reality. The whole reason the film got made at all is because the fan response to the leaked proof-of-concept video was so enthusiastic.

Not sure if they've kept it in the filming script, but the original script for Deadpool apparently had him making fun of the Origins movie and his character in it. The retention of Reynolds seems perfectly in keeping with its 'breaking the 4th wall' tone.

Yeah, they've got plenty of mutant characters to use, and suddenly throwing in non-mutant heroes does seem unnecissary. I don't mind having the X-Men in the same comic book universe since it's been that way since the beginning(ish), but I know some people don't even like that.

So, FF (Surfer, Galactus, Skrulls etc.) back to Marvel, X-Men, Deadpool and Co. in their own universe ?

Yeah, I'd like that...

So even the cast haven't seen the movie yet..

Fantastic Four cast haven't seen the final film yet - and it's out in a few days

According to Miles Tellar-
"Rarely are films of this size critically well received," he said. "This is not a movie we're going to go on (review website) Rotten Tomatoes and it's going to be at 80 or 90 per cent."
Riiiiiight. Like Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, DOFP, Winter Soldier, Iron Man, etc all got awful reviews too didn't they...

edit: I'm not really a fan of Rotten Tomatoes but currently all the above score- 91, 92, 91, 89, 94

"Rarely are films of this size critically well received,"
...said someone who is worried about how low the score will be.

Expectations are so low right now, it'd be great if the movie actually delivered. It'd be a hell of a comeback. :)

Put it in the hands of Marvel and I'm sure they could handle it. Personally, I think it would be interesting to see something where the FF and Doctor Doom were created in the 60's but re-emerge in present day due to a time travel / dimesional thing.

While many will likely say "it's just Captain America again", I think it would be interesting to see especially from the perspective of Sue Storm (who was labeled as girl in the 60's but would be a woman today).

Like Captain America, Fantastic Four was a product of the era it was created in, but it grew into present day. Taking that away robs the property of something in my opinion.
