Inside Out

Anger: Lewis Black from The Daily Show

Well, if there ever was an embodiment of anger... ;)

I was going to give this movie a pass, but it's getting some great reviews and reaction (some present company excluded) so I may go check this one out. Pixar can do some remarkable things when they're not making a movie to sell toys. (:cough: Cars 2 :cough:)

I got to see an advanced screening last week, and was really blown away. It was a return to form for Pixar after a disappointing sequel (Cars 2), an original film that was just OK, not brilliant (Brave), and an unnecessary prequel (Monsters U). Inside Out definitely ranks in their top tier of films with WALL-E and Up. The concept is well-executed, the visual designs are eye-popping, and the voice casting is spot on. I've been recommending Inside Out to everyone I talk to, whether they've got kids or not (for the record, I don't, I just love Pixar movies).

Anger: Lewis Black from The Daily Show

Exactly. And that's what I meant by the perfect casting. The idea that someone said they had to get Lewis Black because he's some sort of ultra-famous movie mega-star is ludicrous. They chose him because he's a moderately well-known comedian and television personality with a very distinctive voice and mannerisms who's done some animation voice work before and most importantly because his entire schtick is built around him being the personification of the emotion of anger. Every interview I've seen with him, if the interviewer is familiar with his stand-up act or his appearances on The Daily Show, has mentioned that he was the natural and obvious choice for the role because anger is his thing.

I saw it today and I LOVED IT. Easily my favorite kid movie in the last few years. Was completely absorbed in it.

One thing I appreciated was the lack of pop culture references which a lot of kid movies seem to be stuffing into their stories in increasing amounts. It was refreshing not to have that. Amy Poehler was amazing in the voice acting, nothing was overly repetitive, it was genuinely funny.
