Skip to the last line and it says shooting starts in September; so if she got the role she wouldn't be available for the Xmas Special or the start of Series 10.

So given their unwillingness to cast outside a pretty tiny range, what up-and-coming British actress in their mid-20s will be next through the blue doors?

Unless they go for the other option...

Well Jenna's got to get the role first and formost, which isn't any kind of certainty. To be honest I'd be amazed if she stayed beyond Christmas in any event.

I wonder if there's any possibility of Shona coming back (who wouldn't quite fit the mid 20s criteria but close...). I hadn't realised till just now that she was in GoT!

If shooting starts in September, yea, that would interfere with The Christmas Special, since that's about when the Christmas Special generally starts to get underway. However, the following Season, doesn't generally (of recent times) start filming until January/February, and principle Filming for Big Budget movies generally doesn't take more than 90 days or so, so, she should be mostly finished with the Movie, before S10 starts to get underway (Though having said that, I would be surprised to see Jenna stay into S10, that would put her over 2 1/2 seasons)

There'd have to be a bit of a Donna-esque transformation from what works for a guest star to what works for a regular.

Several of the other Christmas specials didn't use the regular companion all the much anyway. Both specials of the Pond-era used them very little. The third being after they left.

All the Tennent era specials were transition episodes. First from Nine to Ten, then between companions episodes and the last year specials leading into Eleven.

All the Clara era specials have had her prominant though, so this will be different

I suspect she's gone after the series 9 finale. If she's in the Christmas special it'll be an extra Christmas gift, but I highly doubt it.

Companions don't stay forever. Even Sarah Jane, Tegan, Jamie, and Amy left eventually. Though sometimes they come back.

Jenna, to keep up with Karen would go basically two and a half seasons, which would put her as leaving by the start of Series 10. But that depends on the actress and the BBC. Jenna might like playing Clara, or they could change up her roll as any one of a thousand other Claras. Or go for totally wacky and have her play a Timelord with Clara's face. Jenna could be around for a while, or she could not. The writers can go anyplace with her due to how her character is setup now.

For anyone who's curious, the trailer for Me Before You has dropped.

There are a couple of appearances by Jenna Coleman in the trailer. Definitely looks like a small, supporting role.

Though it's not really my thing, the film looks like it could be cute. For the "date movie" audience, it looks like it would work.
