2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

^ ...and, scene.

Lighten up, Francis. The Mets ran Recker, Muno, Granderson and Tejada in the ninth inning of a no-hit bid; they got what they deserved.

Look at it this way: At least they aren't the Padres, getting no-hit twice in a year by a guy whose arm fell off after 2011.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

No hits allowed, 2 hits created, 3 hits dispensed.

They just don't make Padres/Braves brawls like they used to.

The funniest thing about those two teams going at it is that they basically swapped half their rosters with each other this past winter.

Bryce Harper, currently rocking a 225 OPS+, is roughly a week out from setting career highs in HR, RBI and walks, and he's only played 61 games this season.

Additionally:

Babe Ruth
Rogers Hornsby
Ted Williams
Barry Bonds

If you guessed "The only guys in history with an OPS+ greater than 221," you are correct.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The Mets have to make a decision and make it fast. The Mets are in desperate need of another big bat. With David Wright out indefinitely as of right now, we need to get a power hitting 3rd baseman or Left Fielder. Thats if the Mets management are taking the Mets seriously.

The Mets have way over performed, especially against the National League East. The Mets have been scrappy this season so far, with very good starting pitching and a wonderful Bullpen. Some timely hitting, especially from Duda (by the way I was totally wrong, I wanted to keep Ike Davis and get rid of Duda) has kept us afloat and mostly in First Place.

So who's available for the Mets to trade for?

Josh Reddick is likely to be available but with the numbers he's putting up thus far, the Mets wouldn't be able to get him without coughing up Syndergaard++. (Really, any deal the Mets make is going to involve at least one of Syndergaard, deGrom or Matz; Syndergaard is probably the most expendable.) I think the Cubs might dangle Kyle Schwarber for pitching but he's not a fit for the Mets because he doesn't project as a legitimate on-field player. God only knows what the fuck the Astros are doing so there's a non-zero chance that Colby Rasmus could be sprung for the right price. Otherwise, you're probably looking at waiting for the Brewers to launch their fire sale and offering Aramis Ramirez for a box of baseballs (and even he can't get on base worth a shit anymore). Maybe Brandon Moss since he's got another year of arb eligibility and the Indians are relative cheapskates nowadays.

There are reports that the Phillies are targeting Andy MacPhail for a senior front-office position.

Jesus, Gillick and MacPhail on the same team is the kind of combination that should terrify the rest of the NL.

^Does this mean Rube's finally out the door? His rant from a few weeks ago sounded like the last yelp of a dog about to be shot.

Reading the tea leaves, it sounds like Rube hasn't been calling the shots in Philadelphia for about a year, when Gillick came back into the fold on a full-time basis (notably, the Phillies didn't do anything monstrously stupid this past off-season, nor did they let Hamels go for pennies on the dollar even though it's known that the Cubs, Mets and Orioles kicked the tires on him). So the kicker here is whether MacPhail is being sought to work alongside Gillick, or replace him. If it's alongside, then the rest of the NL should be shitting bricks right about now; if it's as a replacement, it's still a very shrewd move, as MacPhail built some great teams in Minnesota, made some great moves when he stepped in for a few years to clean up Ed Lynch's mess in Chicago, and is responsible for the core of the Orioles roster that Dan Duquette largely gets credit for -- Arrieta, Tillman, Jones, Hardy, Machado, Markakis, Davis and Wieters were all MacPhail acquisitions.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ Replaced by who?

Dave Roberts is managing tonight's game while AAA manager Pat Murphy is on his way to San Diego. The team hasn't officially named an interim manager yet.

The Padres are a game under .500 despite playing Yonder Alsonso, Will Middlebrooks, Yangervis Solarte and Alexei Amarista everyday, plus the corpse of Matt Kemp. Better fire the manager.

Edit: In other news, the Mets DFA'd Dillon Gee. I have no idea why the hell they didn't just option him.

I of course watched him play against the Yankees.

Tanaka actually made a pretty good pitch, low - inner half, and Harper hit the damn thing 420 feet to left center....

Wow.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

The Cubs are calling up Schwarber to DH for the next six interleague games, and will then ship him down to Iowa.

I'm planning on making a minor-league road trip in the near future; I'm interested to see if Schwarber has improved behind the plate at all since I saw him in the Midwest League but giving up 48 steals on 61 attempts doesn't suggest that he has. It'll be interesting to see what the Cubs do with him, because they quite literally do not have anywhere on the field they can put him.

Edit: The Cardinals hacked the Astros.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ Meh. Some minor Cards officials (not the players, of course) probably did that just to get back at Jeff Luhnow.

It's industrial espionage. A corporation illegally accessed another corporation's internal database. The FBI is involved and it is a specifically targeted investigation (meaning the feds have identified personnel they believe to be involved). If any significant part of this is true and provable, people are going to jail, the entire Cardinals front office is likely gone -- even if Mozeliak is personally insulated, you're going to hear a lot of phrases like "culture of corruption" and "lack of institutional control" being thrown around -- and I don't doubt that Manfred would sanction the team itself.

Edit: Put another way, even if a bank leaves its vault doors wide open, it's still a crime to steal from it.
