I'm not sure this poll is a very fair comparison though. The original NCC-1701 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic designs in history. A lot of good will is directed to that one, so that even if you love the new design (like I do) it just seems wrong to vote against the original, which revolutionised so many things.

I wanted to go for a straight poll. I have a favorite then a 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. Maybe some don't have a true favorite but when it coms to starships in my mind its easy to decide what one appeals to a persons eye more. I guess some might like them perfectly the same but to me in real life there is always a slight edge over two choices of what people like.

Yes, I think people will tend to prefer the design that was featured in their favorite iteration of Trek, because it takes them back to that whole experience, and not necessarily for the design's own sake.

I still like the original 1701 from TOS (and if you want to get into the nitty gritty details, there was more than one version depicted on screen). I am a big fan of 1960s design aesthetics in general, which is why the refitted Enterprise from the TOS movies doesn't do much for me. The same with the Galaxy-class Ent-D; to me it just looks odd, and screams 1980s.

To me the difference between the original 1701 and the JJEnt is like the difference between a natural athletic physique, and one pumped up on steroids and growth hormone. Lots of people appreciate the latter, but I am in the old school that thinks the former looks better.

I agree. I think the Abrams Enterprise looks like a steroid or Viagra version of the original or TMP version. The TOS just looks so well proportioned. If I saw a real life sized version of the TOS enterprise I think it would look like a advanced piece of hardware not a outdated ship like some seem to think.

I have a soft spot of Enterprise D. I missed it once it was destroyed. I would like to have seen it in some better feature film action scenes. The crash was pretty sweet though.

I never saw the original Enterprise as a spaceship, but as a vehicle of the imagination. It could take us anywhere.

Plus, it's tough for anything to compare to one's first love. The original Enterprise (and Star Trek) were my first scifi love.

I really can't get emotionally attached to fiction, fictional objects, and such.
Yes, the original lady had her charms, but life's too short to stay hooked on one fictional design.

Maybe it's just the non-fan/anti-fan in me. But not to fear, my non-fandom encompasses everything from Star Trek to Star Wars and everywhere in between and beyond.

I love the original 1701, the refit, and the JJ Abrams 1701. They all have their charms, merits and flaws, just like the stories that they fit in.

I'm more preferential toward 80's music than I am about some sci-fi franchise that has spanned 50 or so years.

I voted the classic one, because it's what got me into Trek, but the JJ one isn't that bad, it just has too much lens flare on the bridge ans some ridiculous pea-shooters instead of accurate phasers. Could like it a lot more just using phasers on it xD

But from all the Enterprises that have existed, the classic refit (1701 A) has been and always shall be, my fave.

I agree about the very limited choices given in the poll. I also understand Pubert's reasoning for the limited choices.

If more choices had been given, I'd have voted for the refit of the original 1701 (as opposed to the A). Largely for tech reasons of the interior.... still using push buttons and toggles as opposed to the touch sensitive controls in the A.

I guess I'm just not a big believer in the word "nostalgia". Something better comes along, I'm usually an adopter.

But, it's all individual taste. Individual taste is fine...as long as it doesn't become a matter of "the original 1701 is the only good Enterprise, and everyone else is wrong for liking the JJ Abrams Enterprise."

I was 9 when I first saw her, and in that exact moment, she created indelible engrams in my brain. Other than the thankfully extinct "Duckbilled" design, every version of her has layered TechAndorphins onto my Grey Matter, and given me indescribable feelings and memories.

But so much more.

I cannot describe it any other way, and I am not ashamed, nor would I want it any other way.

Exactly. Like I said I would hope people didn't vote for TOS out of nostalgic reasons and not what they really liked. I wanted the poll to be honest and accurate. I maybe should have did the vote for both choice because some said they like both equally. I was going to add the TMP refit but then it would have been 2 to one enterprises. Since the abrams universe is still new and has only had one enterprise I wanted to keep it one enterprise to one and of course they are the enterprises in the early years of kirks career. It looks like we are getting a early refit on the NUTrek enterprise so maybe the next poll should have four choices (The TOS and TMP refit and the Abrams 09 Trek and the 16 Refit one). I am interested to see what the interior of the 2016 version will have. I suspect it may look at bit more like the TOS interior but of course much more advance. Maybe a few little items such as orange bridge railings, briefing rooms that have a tri monitors and maybe some replicators.

I voted for the TOS Enterprise. All of its components are ideally proportioned and spaced... which makes all variations kind of less than ideal. The TMP Enterprise had improved details and better looking nacelle pylons, but the engineering hull is slightly oversized compared to the original. The nuEnterprise has the improved detailing of the TMP Enterprise but its components have been modified even more from the TOS Enterprise.

Of existing Enterprise designs, my ranking would probably be:

TOS Enterprise
TMP Enterprise
nuEnterprise
Enterprise-D
Enterprise-C (Probert's design)
Enterprise-E
Enterprise-B
Enterprise-C (on-screen)

Same here. The TOS E was the first one I was introduced to, and not only is it the refit all day long but I put the TOS E near the bottom of the pile. There's only the C I'd put below it.
