Shearer Quits "The Simpsons"

This should be interesting since they've renewed the series for two more seasons.

It's hard to adapt when one guy does the voice work for 20% of the show's cast of characters.

Hard but not impossible. It'll be interesting what changes they makes.

The best thing they could probably do is end the series, but that is highly unlikely. Now if Dan ever quit, it would be over, but Harry leaving is still big.

As awesome as it would be to have a job like that for 25 years, I think even I would get tired of it. I respect his decision, but it is going to really hurt the show more than it's hurting.

If they need one of Shearer's characters in a story there are several voice actors who could pull it off. Some are so good that very few viewers would notice the difference.

"Since the beginning of time, man has yearned to destroy the sun" - Monty Burns

It's all about Homer. It will continue without him.

I think you underestimate Harry's contributions.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised this didn't happen years ago.

Instead of re-casting voices, they seriously need to reconsider wrapping the show up. Voice actors and actresses aren't going to live forever or stick around. Maybe you might hire one person to replace some voices, but if two or three key people disappear from the show...

I haven't watched new Simpson's episodes in years, with the exception of the Treehouse Of Horror specials. I think the people in charge need to see this as a sign.

I suspect they want to make it to 30 seasons so it's a nice, round number.

It's already the longest-running primetime show in history.

They could do the same thing as when Phil Hartman died, and retire Harry's characters.

That's an awful lot of characters you're talking about retiring...
