I considered making this a poll but there are far too many options. Based on cultural aspects, tendencies toward certain types of behavior, something as basic as appearance, etc., is there a certain species you feel a close affinity to? Perhaps one you'd hope to be if the Trek universe were real or one you favor most in roleplaying? If so, why?

There is a reason I chose a female Vorta as avatar/name. Weak eyes, good hearing. In another forum I have a Klingon avatar. I came to realize that a Vorta is more appropriate. And, by the way, I like Kilana's styling.

Amen to that. I'm guessing a lot of us with avatars of Trek species chose them because they're of the species we relate to the most. I'm still a bit torn though - not sure if Klingon is what I'd choose. I certainly have the temperament of a Klingon about half of the time and the other half, that of a Vulcan. :P

I recommend the novel "The lives of Dax". It´s more a collection of short stories about each Dax symbiont. You will see how diverse the Dax hosts really are. Unfortunately we don´t see them all in the show. A little mental cinema is necessary.

I've always strongly identified with the Kazon. At first glance, I seem interesting but eventually you realise I'm just some dick with bad hair

That's so true. I would love to read more about them. I wished DS9 actually spent more time delving into Trill life and specifically the Dax hosts. Then again, it'd be the Dax show and I'm sure development of other characters would suffer for it! I love Trills but I don't think I'd be ok with having a worm shoved inside me haha.

They put a stop to the joining throughout the novels.....

WHAT! Ok now I definitely must read.

DS9: Relaunch

Unity
Worlds of Deep Space Nine - Trill: Unjoined
Lives of Dax: Audrid

I´m too tired from a party. Memory Beta offers a list of the DS9 novels. Enjoy. Keep your hands off Ketracel White, though.

TOS-era Romulans. Especially the commander from "Balance of Terror," wearily trying to maintain an old-fashioned sense of honor and integrity despite trends to the contrary.

If it was a role-playing exercise, I could go for TOS-era Klingons or TOS-era Romulans.

I *much* preferred that type of Romulans. For me, later Romulans have very few redeeming qualities.

I didn' t like Romulan stories much until I read Sherman/Shwartz' Vulcan' s Heart and Vulcan's forge. Some authors are talented when it comes to portraying Romulans. :rommie:

I second those of you picked the Romulans of TOS. I wish we'd seen more of them, as I much prefer the duty-bound Romulan Commanders of Kirk and Spock's time to the xenophobic police-state we saw in TNG and DS9.

Never thought I'd end up getting into Trek literature for some reason but you have definitely piqued my interest!

A few years ago I probably would of said Klingon Hybrid....however, these days... Bajoran.

This but my hybrid would've been half Klingon, half Betazed. Honorable and empathetic. Now I just feel like I'm being screwed by greater powers.

Vulcan's the too-easy answer for geeks.

I might have to go with Changeling. The outsider, trying to appear the same as the people he's among.

I think a poll should he made for this thread. If you cycled down to the top 20 from this list, you'd hit a lot of bases. Also, add an "other" for whoever's missed.
