NFL Offseason 2015 - Countdown to the first arrest

Kind of stunned the Bears drafted a wide receiver with the indisputable best pass rusher in the draft still on the board.
Substitute "Raiders" for "Bears" and this could easily have been my first post draft post.

We took defensive lineman Mario (Edwards Jr.?)" with the 3rd pick in the 2nd round, a spot where I would have thought we could have gotten a down lineman without much baggage. The only thing I can think of is that Mario must have some big upside. I do admit that I don't know much about him other than the little I've read.

We also picked up a couple of linebackers in the later rounds and a tight-end, who likes he could be pretty good, in the 3rd round, so not too disappointed with overall draft.

DeflateGate report is out. Somewhat...underwhelming for the time and money spent on it. Wishy-washy, no real proof or evidence one way or the other. Couple Patriots' employees might have been involved in something, 'more likely than not' that Brady was "generally aware" of it, that sort of thing.

Basically just going to confirm whatever you believed before, whether you thought they did it or not. Will see if there's enough here for NFL to hand out any actual punishments. Either way, i'd say the Patriots guy that was being investigated is done either way. Even if he didn't do anything, those texts aren't going to make any friends with the Pats or Brady. Jokes, he can argue, but came off as a big dick at best.

Basically all that report tells me is that Brady asked those guys to bring the balls down some because he preferred to use balls that were on the smaller end of the scale. There's no actual proof that he specifically asked them to bring them below the legal limit.

Of course, ESPN is running with it and making the whole thing seem way, way worse than it probably really was. The only problem with that is most people will just believe what ESPN tells them.

The report also doesn't do much to quell the general perception of the Pats as cheaters.

As I put in the other thread:

And the website was registered in February. Truly an unbiased site.

I never said it was unbiased. I just an pointing out a place that one can go and look to see what their team has done in the past, once the cheater label is being thrown around.

So they're moving the XPA back to the 15 because it's "too automatic." It's been automatic for as long as I've been watching football, which is going on 30 years now.

Why do they feel the need to tinker with the game, especially on such a fundamental level?

Next thing you know, baseball will be adding four strikes.

Sorry, I think this is a great change. Changing it from a 19 yard kick to a 33 yard one will make it vastly more interesting. The team should earn the point, otherwise the NFL might as well just give it to them and skip the potential for injuries.

I also like that defenses will now be able to return two-point conversions for two points of their own.

Statistics show that it was increasing in accuracy. At one point, it was in the 70-80% range.

Still, of all the options, this is the least stupid. The proposal of an automatic seven or you can go for eight but, if you fail, you get six rule was awful. I seriously got the impression that the NFL hates kickers. This rule change at least makes good kickers more important.

The number of strikes in baseball was as high as 9 in the 1800's, but they got that tinkering over with pretty early.

Yeah, it's not too bad a tweak. At least the least shitty option. Was automatic/boring, so this should add at least a small challenge to it, especially in shitty conditions.

I don't have a real problem with backing up the point after, not what they've proposed, anyway. I would have a problem with taking it away altogether. But to miss a point after you pretty much have to shank it or lose concentration. It should be a little bit of a challenge, IMO.

One of the other interesting things are all these L.A. rumors. There's a plan, and someone on the west coast might know more, but there's a plan for the Chargers and Raiders to share a stadium now, evidently. I think there's a really good shot that the Rams relocate back there regardless of what the Raiders/Chargers do.

If they want to add challenge to scoring, award points for touchdowns based on the distance of the play. An 80 yard bomb should be worth more points than a half yard dive at the goal line. Its a really stupid idea, but it'll get the purists in an uproar. And since each scoring play is reviewed, they can put the time to good use by checking the ball for proper inflation.

Ray McDonald has been arrested again, for the second time in the last seventy two hours. This guy and Aaron Hernandez deserve each other.

I really worry we aren't watching someone melt down -- he's already forfeited his money and by violating his restraining order in this way, he's now acting like someone with nothing left to lose.
