It was PTI, he clarified he was joking and, frankly, the average game is only slightly longer than that. I think the explanation is the sample size of one.

Not like it was 10 minutes faster, though. it was an hour shorter. And wasn't a pitching duel, plenty of runs and pitching changes, etc. There's definitely something to it when you say that playing to the fans is part of what's taking so long.

ARod pinch hit tonight and hit home run number 660. It was a laser into the seats atop of the Monster.

And the Redsox fan who caught it? He immediately LEFT THE BALLPARK because he was afraid of getting hassled to throw the ball back. :guffaw: :guffaw:

Actually no, he was escorted out by security because he's going to be offered quite a bit of stuff for exchange of the ball.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

ARod single-handedly won tonight's game for the Yanks. A solo home run (which was a bomb), a two run home run and a single to score the game winning run. This is the best, go ARod.

While I'm not an A-Rod fan, I do enjoy it when a player shut's up the boo-birds.... especially when it's in Boston.

He absolutely CRUSHED that ball.

Yeah, that's pretty standard. And, that way, you can get some cool souvenirs without having to worry about paying taxes on that ball.

I'm not following.

Don't you have to pay taxes on *anything* the team gives you? (And if they give you the money to pay those taxes, that is in itself taxable.)

I'm kinda' worried about this fan, who fell really hard trying to catch Buster Posey's home run this afternoon.

Lots of fan injuries so far, hopefully that guy is OK.

You do. But a milestone Baseball could be worth millions of dollars. That's a lot of taxes to pay if the IRS wanted to enforce it (as a rule, they don't, but they probably legally could). Since most people who catch a Baseball don't have money to pay the taxes on a million dollars when all they got is a baseball, that's a pretty steep price. The souvenirs probably aren't worth nearly that much so the taxes are more affordable.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

It's a baseball until you sell it. If you sell it on make millions than the IRS can come after you, otherwise all they can force you to do is pay for a $10 ball.

It's a Yankee ball, just light it on fire and solve all the problems.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

...on second thought maybe I'd just let somebody else catch the damn thing.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Congrats to AROD on 660!! Quite an accomplishment.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

^ I cheered not just because of the HR, but because it was A-Rod sticking it to the Redsox - at Fenway, to boot. :techman:

Just like two years ago when Ryan Dempster plunked him. Nobody from the Yanks needed to retaliate because A-Rod subsequently hit a HR off the little shit.

And I find it quite ironic that the Sox fans boo A-Rod yet they cheer Papi...

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Yesterday there was three instances where a base runner was hit by a batted ball forcing an automatic out. Two of them ended the game. That's something you don't see every day. In fact, the last time that happened was in a Pirates game in 2010 and yesterday it happened 3 times. Baseball, the sport with the most wackiness.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Six more dingers until A-Rod dissolves into a puddle of blood and The Dark Lord George Steinbrenner is resurrected with a mission of vengeance in the Bronx. Hail Satan.

Although the Yankees are saying they're refusing to pay Rodriguez his $6 million bonus for #660. Can't wait for this slapfight. Fuck off, Levine / Hal. Pay the man.
